Has anyone tried using the cheaper alternative of accepting
credit card payments. Having Paypal option on their website.

John,
I don't think creditcard payments are expensive in the first place and nowadays people are very used to CC machine terminals and are happy to use them whereas many don't understand / trust the alternatives. We've got a machine from 123send and 80% of our customer pay by that method.- the costs of it  (which are cheaper than trapsing to the bank with a fistful of cheques and dealing with the bounced ones) are tax deductible.

We tried paypal for a while and found most customers wouldnt go for it, since we have gone with Adelante which provide credit and debit card payments through your phone and just wouldnt be with out it now, one of the best decisions of last year.

to be able to take card payments anywhere is such a boon, and most people who say they will post a cheque will now pay straight away when they know we can take cards.

With cheques on the way out all carpet cleaners should be considering taking card payments as this is going to be the preferred payment method soon,

Adelante say they can supply software for any modern phone.

they are also endorsed by NCCA now as well so they must be doing something right  :)

Steve,

That's quite interesting. I just think that people may be quite wary about punching their creditcard details into someone else's mobile phone, as opposed to a CC machine. Also, how do you give them a print out of the transaction record?
How much does it cost?

£25 per month. As I've said, the cost of it is tax deductible so what the hell. To me it's having a platform that as many people as possible will use and the mobile CC machine seems to fit that bill (excuse the pun ;D) whereas paying people through someone else's mobile phone with all the implications of possible data storage and fraudulent use thereafter, I think that is a bit of a stretch for now at least.

Simon, I thought the same but the reality has been that not one person has questioned it.

Maybe people are lot more trusting than we think ?

Ive had a terminal in the past and using the phone is a great deal easier to use and quicker.

You can show them the transaction on the screen and give them your usual receipt.

Its a flat fee of £10.00 a month and whatever the transaction charges are.

I went for it as it means not having another piece of equipment to cart around, you always have your phone on you so its convenient,

To be honest most of my customers just see it as a mobile card machine and accept it.

when you think about it, they let us walk round there house unattended moving furniture and cupboards etc... if they trust us to do that plus the fact that we are professional and were contacted by them. can't see why they wouldn't trust a phone payment.

Mark,

I can't find that on their site where you make a call to them.  I can only find the EPDQ Lite Virtual Terminal.  Do you have a link?

It`s an on line terminal Joe,I would personally steer clear though, they are not doing themselves any favours at the moment, they are having probs with my application, which has been ongoing since the beginning of January, spoke to them this morning to get the all clear, and merchant number should be mine within the next 24 hours, just had a call saying there has been a problem again, something that was supposed to be changed by my business manager last Friday, has still not been changed, and is currently holding me up !!!!!
Need it to take payments that have been outstanding since December !! If I lose this contract through Barclays being poo where do I stand ?

Cash is king, always offer 10% discount for cash payments, get the odd cheque sometimes for the bigger jobs.
