I hear so many people these days getting tax credits so I wondered how much the cut off figure was.
A plumber down my street is single and still gets £50 a week tax credits. How did he manage to get that?

no chance mate ... if ur a honest tax payer who works for a living then the system gives u nowt ... u need to be a workshy lazy git who has never put a penny into the system to qualify even better if u can claim asylum  ... rant over

not true pal, if you have kids or are single or some other situations you are entitled to claim back some of your tax money as tax credits, in the form of working or child tax credit, when we had our little girl my wife could only work 2 days a week and applied for them, as she had worked she was entitled to some money, as was i for having a child i get back tax each week

everyone situation is different and the more you earn the less you get, but its worth finding out

People have a negative opinion of it, but its only getting back money you put in, and how many people do a cash in hand job..... at least tax credits are 100 % legal !

Just be careful also that if you are self employed they base your earnings on your estimate, and if you earn much more you can owe the money back, so you have to be keen to keep them upto date with your details

That is incorrect.  People earning 30k can still qualify for tax credits and help with childcare costs. Hardly workshy. Working tax credits and Child credits are more to do with tax than actually 'benefits'

No not always, its based on there own calculations, dont know what there formulas are, but its a great system imo and is one of the few/only benefits for people who deserve it ie people who are grafting but through certain circumstances may need a subsidy to help

Have a look on google for a calculator like one higher up thread and apply... might be done away with soon knowing this govt!!

Another area that helps but i dont use, is childcare help, they pay nearly all your childcare costs in certain circumstances for parents who have to both work

No its not based on what you've paid in. Its based on what you earn and whether you meet the minimum subsistence levels set down by the government.
