Richard

I used to just send a short letter out saying i cleaned your carpets/upholstery etc and enclosed a business card.

I have not done any for a good few years mind but its worth a try mate.

Maybe I'm just tight but what with the price of postage I've gone off mailing even to existing customers.

If you have everyones email this is a good way to keep in touch A LOT and then pick out your top 20% and ring a few each day. If you have a decent phone contract it cost you nothing but time and this is probably the most effective why to get work and you don't even how to try and sell something, just ask them how they are, ask them questions and wait for them to mention they have some work for you.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I couldn't be arsed sending out letters :( (no offence, i better say that in case you think i'm angry  ::))

Emails is the way forward i think, quicker, saves money etc

I've personaly never done it, but must be better that licking enevolpes and stamps all day, and standing in a queue at the post office.
