Hi Guys
Just after some advice please. 
I recently quoted on a large house where one of the main bedrooms was fully carpeted in a very dense, light cream, 100% wool shag pile.  Never been professionally cleaned before. 
The pile is really deep, about 2 - 3 inches long.
I've not come across such a deep pile carpet as yet, and would be grateful for any suggestions on how to clean this.
Presumably HWE is an option with plenty of dry strokes.
I'd normally use pre-spray gold with FF rinse on wool carpets.

Probably going to need raking and vaccing to death first, the soiling will be all the way down to the backing, dont over wet it will take weeks to dry, i would try M/S and bonnet first mate

did one a few weeks ago and have to admit thought it was quite an old carpet,(it wasn't) but apparently long shag pile is making a comeback
Pre-sprayed, then L/M with the most minimum of wetness on the pad. The carpet sucked the moisture in like it hadn't had a drink for months. Dry padded twice to absorb as much as possible. Left it in a minimal damp state.
Came up nice after a pile groom, but will only stay good if no-one walks on it

I've done a couple of really deep shag-piles but neither were wool. I'd say 3/4 inch + deep on both.

The first thing you'll notice is the pre-vac is a killer. I would recommend taking a suction only (Henry type) vac as pushing a sebo type is a nighmare and not that effective.

The next thing is def keep the pre-spray to a minimum and pressure on the rinse low. Wanding is also a right royal pain.

There is likely to be a load of deep down dirt and to be honest, short of taking the carpet up and giving it a shake you'll just have to vac, vac and then vac before even thinking about your pre-spray.

I wouldn't have thought rotary would be the answer but if there are those that have success then fair enough.

A glide would def help with wanding and is therefore worth a go.

Hi Ian,
because this is definitely high wool content if not 100% and at least 2 " deep, then as said overwetting with hwe could cause a problem. Good tip with the vac (i'll take my henry aswell ! )

Just to add, my rotary died on me today  so hiring a machine may have to happen. Is 250rpm ok on this type of carpet ? (mine is 150rpm).

LM on a shag pile is a complete waste of time. If the pile is nearly 2" long there's no way that rotary is the answer.

HWE is the only way, as time consuming as it maybe on this fibre.

Shag pile  necessities (sp?) Sebo BS on no.4 Lashings of Mpower oversprayed with hot ultra pac brushed  firmly in with Rotowash or similar heavy duty CRB then vigorous hot water extraction around 500 psi - jobs a good un... oh and a glide!! saves that sick stomach muscle feeling afterwards!!!

I'd hwe this all day long have done several in the past all with excellent results. Firstly I'd pre vac heavily using a sebo then use what you first said prespray gold with fibre and fabric rinse (great combination on wool carpets). Doesnt matter about the thickness of the pile really dirt will only be on the surface of a carpet that thick. Pre vac is the most important to remove dry soiling.

I'd spray prespray lightly then agitate then rinse with an extra dry pass or two. Make sure they have heating on at this time of year when finished to help with drying as it could take a while....
