Hi All
This question if for the guys using Ford Rangers for WFP. What size water tanks have you fitted? I plan to get a Ranger in the near future and just want to plan ahead slightly. Ideally, I would like to get a tank holding over 500 litres and still have room for the gutter vav, generator and other bits.
Any advice really appreciated.

I have a mitsi L200 with a 350ltr tank in back. Originally I did try getting the 500ltr in but was left with little or no space for any other equpment.
With the 350ltr on-board I fit in small press. washer,  3 x wfps, buckets, tools etc. OK There have been a couple of times when I could have done with some more literage but thats the compromise for this type of vehicle. As a backup for running short of pure water,  I carry a seperate 11ltr filled Di vessel that I can hook up to an customers outside tap if needs be ( have rarely done this but it works 100 %  and the resin lasts a long time too ).
50% of my day is spent window cleaning and the rest on gutter work or pressure washing so dont need much more water than I can carry.

I have a custom fitted 650L tank.  After the tank there is only enough room for 2 fixed hose reels.  So a standard 500L tank will not leave much room.  You could get a custom tank made up but I still doubt you'll have a lot of room left.

could you not have a 350 tank in (for example) and then have a trailer with 250 upwards tank in it, Park it somewhere on your round with a hitchlock/wheel clamp on and then just refill when needed? Then you would have plenty of space for everything in truck, and plenty of water. Perhaps you could even leave it at odd custies houses who are out all day or do not own a car.

Yes, what I am thinking of doing is taking my 1000 litre tank and Ionic Pro 5 system from my Movano, and sticking it in the garage, turning it into a static system. Keep that full most of the time and then nip back {most of my customers are local to me} if I| need to fill during the day. I would like to have a trailer system as well in case I need a lot of water in one day a little further afield.
When I started WC which was only 12 months or so ago, I intended to go after the bigger stuff, large residential and commercial but the way I feel now is leaning to the domestic side more.
Having a smaller vehicle should be cheaper to run in fuel, safer, cos you don't have a ton of water three feet behind you and easier to park. I sometimes drive round Tesco for ages before I can park up at the weekend!

A ford ranger won't be cheaper to run than most vans.  They drink the fuel and the newer ones cost a bomb in tax.  They are 4 wheel drive and even though most of the time you won't use it the extra drive gear adds a lot of weight.

Tom I meant to say that I also, as Simon was saying, have the Merlin R.O hooked up in the garage feeding a 1000ltr. tank and transfer this via paump to the 350ltr in the jeep. If your work is local enough  and you can nip back for top ups if needed, I'd say for the purposes of fitting in other kit etc.  the 350 ltr tank would perfect.
Pulling a trailer around just to accomodate window cleaning jobs is a real pain!! I use my 6 x 4 trailer when I'm doing large pressure washing jobs that need the big press. washer and shovels, brushes, hoses etc. and I know that it can be very awkward navigating around housung estates or towns - especially for parking.
Its a relief just to have the jeep loaded and ready for window cleaning.
