First employee/contracts etc???
«

Hi there,
Just wondered if anyone had any advice on employing staff. I'm about to take on first full time employee. I'm thinking of going for a temporary fixed term contract.
Not sure what happens if we get 2 weeks of snow and ice. Do I still have to pay them or can I get something written into their contract regarding weather etc?
Should I just pay out for a solicitor to write out a proper contract or is it something I can piece together myself?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Dom

do what most do give them a 16h contract and that is all you have to pay if no work in, some give out 0 h contracts, but it all depends on what type of person u want to employee, someone with a family or single bloke living at home
i would get a sol to do it as if done wrong u can get shafted

Proper contracts from a proper lawyer.

Hi
i think the advice is good, hire on 16hrs, with flexible work pattern you usually can get two days in a week.
You also avoid employers ni which starts at around 110 a week. Remember to register as an employer and bare in mind you will have to pay them holiday pay. Lastly dont forget to insure them.
If working trad and they are not experienced spend some time training them especially on ladders type up a document showing the points and get them to sign and date it.
cheers

Hi
That is a good point, I think they give you a grand as well for training.
If you take on a 19- 20 year old wages can be less as well.
However i have tried this and iam not sure it is worth it, long term unemployed or teenagers on dole have forgotton how to work or never knew how. They can be unreliable and work shy also with a bad attitude if they are being pushed to work.
Of course this is not always the case. There are some genuine people looking for work and you might get a real gem.
I just think you could do with a proffessional with the right attitude to get your business up a notch. It is worth its weight in gold to have someone you trust and cracks the work out.
I think the dole que option possibly using a teenager maybe best left for employee 2. That way you have you or your main man watching the young un'.
You can ask most people for a day trial and in the case of the unemployed a weeks trial. Dont sign anyone up for an apprentiship as they can be legally binding.
If someone isnt cutting it make sure you let them go in there probationary period usually 3 months.
cheers
