« on: November 10, 2010, 04:02:43 pm »
First night of frost last night where i live.I used a paraffin filled new greenhouse heater in my van over night. When i came out this morning inside of the van was covered in black soot.Is this normal for these heaters if so i will look for another heater. What ones do you guys use?  Thanks.

I beleive from previous posts last year that it is pretty standard and smelly too.

If you are near an outside plug use an electric greenhouse heater set to the frost setting - I used one thru all the severe weather last year and no problems.

( the cable fits behind and under the rear door of my peugeot so doors locked and alarmed as normal ).

Good luck

Simon

I've just bought a parasene electric greenhouse heater for mine which i've used twice, seems ok. I just leave it on a low setting all night. I will have to wait for a severe frost and then I will know if it works or not.  :)

I used a paraffin heater last winter and it "imploded", never again. Everything in the van got smoke damaged. For every litre of fuel, they give off a litre of water vapour and when we had the really bad weather it wasn't up to it at all. I use an electric, oil filled rad now on very low and it was great last Feb. Only of use if you can park the van v close to the house though, not right for everyone.

Most heat radiates off. A cover would protect overnight

Paraffin heaters.

Run them with a blue, not a yellow flame. Otherwise they smoke.
Do not let them run out of paraffin because if they do the wick continues burning and leaves soot everywhere.

As said - use oil rad if poss.
It's a game of three halves!

Shouldn't need to use it much yet Marc" if you stick your poles and hoses in the garage overnight thats enough to keep you working. I used an electric greenhouse heater in the van last year when we had the very coldest weather and this worked fine, another benefit is you wont need to scrape ice of your windscreen in the morning  :)

Hows the Omi Vac going? I'm waiting for the 110v Eastern Trading vac to become available in December then I'll be getting one. Hope they get delivered on time because the gutter cleaning work is starting to build up  :o and I dont want to start until I'm kitted out.  :D

The Omni vac's going well thanks Simon, I have been using it today on my own gutters which were  full up with leaves from the trees at the front of my house. I have got a few jobs to do and need to get my guttervac leaflets out there and push it a bit more because a lot of  people have never heard of it or seen it done before.  ???
