Pump advice needed
« on: October 13, 2010, 06:27:23 pm »
Very soon i will be swapping from backpack only to van mount.
I wonder whether a flow controller is really needed.
I was thinking of buying a Vyair 5lpm pump fitted with pressure switch and controlling the flow with my holster tap.
Will the pump be ok doing this or does a controller protect the pump as well as being useful to get an exact flow rate?
Also will a controller save me water and resin?
I will still be using the holster tap, (old habits die hard!!!!)
Any help much appreciated, as usual.
Jon

A flow controller will save you water and resin, that's of course if you don't need 5 litre a min. I use about half that, and if you have been managing OK with a backpack so will you.
There is a cheaper alternative to a flow controller, either use a bypass system where any unused water goes back into the tank, or use a simple 12 volt motor speed controller wired in between your battery and your pump.
That is after all what the backpack speed controller does.

Cheers for the reply,
