painting prices?for old frames
« on: October 05, 2010, 07:44:36 am »
a fair few of my customers keep asking if i know somebody who will prepare and paint there old frames . im not interested in doing it myself ( but i do vaguely know a decorator) but does anybody here know a ROUGH PRICE for this type of work ? i wouldnt want any of my customers to get absolutely fleeced because then id never hear the end of it .  for certain the putty is loose and various cracked glass in corners too.  i would guess the windows are a 100 years old

Why are you asking window cleaners how much it costs to paint windows?

Ask a painter.

for a frame like that it would need to be done over 2 days 1 day for undercoat 2nd day for gloss and you would expect to be charged around £25 per frame .
where theres muck theres money

Would need to be more than that. I do painting and could do 4 of those windows in a day and would charge £150 plus paint per day.

I dont think he's allowed for the time to make a decent job in preparation.

i dont know if you meant me or not, but that would allow time for proper prep work to be carried out

cheers lads !  - that gives me some idea , especially now i know it must be over 2 days to allow the different coats of paint to dry

the reason i asked is because it could be  handy to have a   painter/ivy cutter/ other trades i can pass it on too .rather than just saying point blank " i dont know any other trade folk "

??
then their whole window will look great
It seemed odd if you just want to pass someones number on to another tradesman why you would need to know how much something would cost them. If you're wrong in your figures you may be denying the painter some work.

Yeah!!! and ur a decorator?????? its an exterior application it needs alkyd based undercoat, and gloss, two coats of gloss if ya want a professional job. Oh and applied by a tradesman would be a great help too.

That's funny because all decorators are buying water based undercoat, and the big companies are making waterbased undercoat for EXTERIOR use.  So yes I am a decorator and have been so for years, so don't come on here accusing me of not being one, I'm sure you wouldn't get the postman telling you tgat you wernt using your wfp properly, stick to what you know, and I will stick to what I know
