payload and towing weight
« on: September 17, 2010, 07:14:11 pm »
does a vans gross payload weight include anything being towed, ie if total load weight of van is say 800kg and there is 500kg of weight in the van does this mean that you could say only tow a max of 300kg or can you include the max towing weight of a van and the gross payload.

cheers

You have a Gross Vehicle Weight which may be for instance 2200kg (perhaps Unladen weight of van is 1400kgs and payload is 800kg). Your van cannot weigh more than this.

You then have the gross train weight perhaps 3200kgs which is the van and trailer.

The GVW and GTW should be on the vehicle plate.  Trailers over a certain size need a plate as well

You cannot mix and match the van and trailer weights. The max for van is 2200kgs and the max for  loaded trailer in this example is 1000kgs.  The max for whole loaded outfit is 3200kgs

This was right but the law constantly changes. Check it on google.
