small vans
« on: August 21, 2010, 11:39:57 am »
looking at a small van for wfp for the next few months to a year till i build a big enough work load and save for a larger two man set up but for now just want a 400 - 500 litre setup so i can start changing rounds to wfp lad with me will back pack or trad bottoms for now

so i am looking at vauxhall combo or ford connect , fancy combo as they seem cheap to pick up and they have decent payload and power the 1.7 tdi has 100 bhp and 810 kg payload i think

whats your experience with them??

i have had transit, escort van and a astra, and prefer the dispatch,  more room and can get the kids in the front   2 side doors, and back doors,   handles great with 400 in the back

If you know you're going for two man and 500L then get the 3 seat HDi Peugeot expert with 900kg payload.

If like me it's one man and 400L then a Doblo is a good 'un.
It's a game of three halves!

as long as its Hdi they'll pull everything you can chuck in.
640ibc in mine. only the steepest of steep hills round my way gets it struggling when setting off 1st - 2nd but if your already moving the turbo just takes it easy.

I use a combo - 400 ltr tank (upright)  goes really well and the pols fit inside.

Got 2 doblo's and love them. Nice and easy to get the ladders off the roof when needed too.

They're both 1.3 multijet and don't struggle with a full 400ltr tank

Ditto

That 1.3 turbo is amazing, knocking on 50mpg too with 400ltr in tow! :D

I have a 1999 Peugeot Expert 1.9TD... Not as good as the HDI engine but it pulls well as its an ex-police van and I think they might have tinkered with it  ;)

I've got a 650Ltr tank in the back.

I have a 1.9 JTD Doblo, twin SLD,  been a great van, you can get them for a good price too if you have a good look around.
