advice please
« on: August 11, 2010, 03:31:00 pm »
hi guys .i'm trying to recover some money from a customer who paid me with a cheque that has been returned by my bank.the reason was ''ACCOUNT CLOSED''.so i called the customer and she said she doesn't know about that and that she is going to pay me cash.although she said that it never happened .when i call her she always says that she'll bring the money where i leave by the end of the week.so i waited and it's been already a month.so i don't think she is going to pay me .i let her know that she give no option than claim my money through the small claim court.the problem is that she moved from where the work was carried so  i don't have her new address.i have her full name, the unpaid cheque, the invoice and the history for all work carried on her property which she paid for it expect the last one.

it's about £50 doesn't sound much for actually i had to turn down other work in that day because she was really desperate as she was moving out the next day.i do often she her on her bike around town but i'm allways in a hurry but next time i see her i'll fallow her just to find where she leaves.

i'm just looking for some advice for how to recover my money and in a way to ''punish'' her because i had to turn down other work just to help her .that's what annoys me more.

thank you

send her letters and charge her £35 per letter  banks and solicitors charge this, charge her for time looking for her new house  debt collectors charge this as well,  the just take her to the small claims court, but you will need her full correct name, date of birth   house phone number, and mistake on this and she can say it isnt her,

i would find out where she lived and just turn up to the house and ask for payment

some customers are scum mate!

they dont think that they are taking food off the table from the family ...

i see you want to get back at her more than the money but i think you may have to put it down to experience and just let it go.

shes moved and for £50 is it worth more time n hassle?

maybe ask her old neighbours?

im gonna guess she wanted you to clean the windows and gutters? i find for some reason and no offence ment but some customers who rent want work done but dont really wanna pay for it ... im guessing cuz it aint really their house.

She was having a problem getting her deposit back as the carpets must be clean and rentel agents will lode the price to clean to double which they then keep. She will get her deposit and feel she does not have to pay for carpet cleaning as she now lives in a new address. The agent would also go to court for carpet cleaning fee.

I had one who lives opposite me, i had been cleaning their house windows about a year when the husband knocks at my door wanting to know if id be interested in doing 15 houses and some flats for the housing association he works for, so i price them up and get the job, 2 days work every 6 weeks, do them for about a year and then no payment for the last clean, i keep asking him and the cheques got to be signed, the boss is on holiday all the excuses and they stopped paying for their house as well which i had cleaned 5 times without being paid, i ended up sending letters recorded delivery saying please pay by blah blah or i will take you to small claims court they owed me over £200.00 he comes over and says if i can prove that i cleaned them then they will pay...... so never got the money.
I notice youre in Colcheater im in Mersea and this company have an office near the bottom of the Mersea road between the roundabout and the petrol station, be warned ;)
Im not scared of heights, just falling from them.

Ive got one outstanding £20 ( 2 cleans ) at the moment.

Went around to see her and she apologised saying someone close had died and her head was all over the place ... she promised to send me a cheque ... 10 days later still waiting

Cleaned her neighbours house this week and didnt do hers ... she was in and Im sure she knew I was next door but never came out to pay me.

Bookkeeping wise Ive written it off as I put a little aside each month for "bad debts" however mentally I have definately not written it off.

Giving it till Friday if nothing in post going around again to collect and this time I wont be so nice and understanding ref her recent bereavement.

If I was you I would go to her new address and ask for payment otherwise small claims court threat or there is an agency who for about a fiver will send them a crappy letter ... not sure who they are but have seen them mentioned on here a few times ....... good luck but dont let her get away with it !!
