Will this shrink???
« on: July 24, 2010, 06:19:16 pm »
http://www.crucial-trading.com/en/Floorcovering_Details.aspx?rid=406

Been asked to quote a job with this carpeting! yip, good old Crucial Trading....

Wasn't able to check the backing as it all seemed very well laid down! and the other bit of good news is that the current cleaners "run" over it with a small extraction machine (a puzi by the sounds of it).

So, what do you think? is HWE suitable or is it LM only?

At £ 110.00 per m2 it bloody ought to be able to be cleaned !!

I would imagine Tony that it might be double-stuck, ie: underlay tackified to the floor, carpet stuck to the underlay - thats the way I would fit it.

I would lightly mist it with a microsplitter, thorough agitation, then HWE with lots of dry passes.

It's not as though it's sisal, but I would still be cautious though.

I am tempted to order a sample but the job has a tight dead line!  :-\ a very small sample of course! dont fancy shellin out 110 to find out i cant HWE it! lol

I know Steve! plus its 975 square meters! so really dont fancy shriking it all!  :-X
Yeah i was thinking along the lines of light pre spraying, loads of dry passes and air movers...

Anyone else had experiance with this?

I tried Derek but the lazy gits must be closed! Having said that it was 5.30pm when i called. Lazy gits lol
Plus, some experienced carpet cleaners will have a better idea than a saleman. Worried in case they say "aye fire away! our carpets indestructible :)"

what is it about this wool carpet that is different to any other wool carpet you have ever cleaned?

like 99% of all wool carpets out there  it won't shrink.

What makes you think Crucial will know how to clean it !!

If they gave a monkeys about carpet cleaning they wouldn't make sisal in the first place  ;D

Exactly Steve!

Sup Mike

I get what your saying but i'm more concerned about the construction of the backing.
I mean is it woven carpet with a jute backing?? or a bog standard hessian?  ???
Never cleaned this type of carpet before.

I'd like to meet the person who can tell the backing from an advertising picture ;D
The only way your going to find out is to lift and look or contact CT

A lot of people are wary of anything that comes out of Crucial Trading,

but in suitability it states thats its fine for 'High Moisture Areas' so I would say your OK.
