Got a couple of blue spots yesterday...
« on: July 25, 2010, 12:29:29 pm »
Hi,

I did my mother-in-laws carpet yesterday.  (Fatal, why didn't I listen to the advice re friends & family  >:().

Anyway, there were 5 medium sized spots on the carpet which were gravy that dripped onto the carpet about 1 yr ago.  I initially tried spot treating them but had limited results.

So pre-sprayed the carpet with ENZ-ALL, agitated, then Hot Water Extracted. The mistake I admittedly made was that I went too far with High PH.  I used a bit too much Prochem Extraction Plus, but also added too much Prochem Citrus Booster  :o

The carpet has come up ok but the spots, although now more faded, have gone a shade of blue.....  :o :o :o

The carpet pile is also a little stiff and brittle, again I guess because I've left the PH too high.

Here's my intended resolution plan - I'd be really grateful for any pointers or advice:-

- Blot treat the blue spots with 50/50 white vinegar/water solution.

- Not use any further prespray on the carpet

- Extract with something non-detergent and PH neutral.  Probably going to try out 'Nemesis Super' (thanks to the sample bottle John K sent me!).

What do you think?

The carpet is a horrible straw coloured short loop-pile nylon.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I usually just rinse out before spotting as they have usually had a go with something already.

I would have done the same inbetween my treatment too.

What was the loop pile made of?
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

That's the problem, she's had one hell of a go at trying to get them out already. I can see where they've been scrubbed around the spotted areas.

It's one of those unattractive nylon materials; the sort that looks like a commercial carpet, without any of the conveniences of commercial carpet!

Could be interaction with her product always rinse before putting another chem on.

You could try an acid rinse to reinstate ph but prob too late for your marks I'm afraid.

Do you not think the vinegar treatment on the marks might bring the PH back down and take them out?

No harm in trying  ;D

Do you not have any acid rinse products? Do you use high ph products and just extract with water? I think you can do that with a truck but wouldn't with only portie rinsing.

Hi Wynne,  I'd ran out of Acid Rinse  :-[  everything about this error was about laziness and complancency on my part.   That's the truth of it.   I've now got some more arriving today but I suspect too long a time period sitting with a residual PH of probably around 11... !  >:(

A good lesson learned.     Envoridri compound eventually got the issues sorted; softened the pile down and took out all of the blue spots.

I'm sure we've all been guilty of that mate :)

Glad you got it sorted....
