« on: August 25, 2005, 06:28:01 pm »
Hi Everyone,

Garrison Carpet Cleaners here. ( Catterick Garrison North Yorkshire) Have come across more and more Bluetac pushed into carpets, costomers seam to think its Chewing Gum when i ask them. Chewing Gum i can get out with HWE but i do not like to have the heat on to much, is there somthing a bit more gentle. As for the Bluetac i will have a go with HWE and blunt knife, please please is there another way ! :'( any info would be grateful

Hi Brent,

Caterick not a million miles from me ( Eaglescliffe ).

A good product that will remove bluetac and chewing gum is solution No 6.
You can get this from Solution UK Ltd.
Tel number is 08458382156 or 08458382157

Regards Tony Harrison.

Brent,

White spirt is effective in removing both blue tack and chewing gum.

If you are doing a lot its worth wearing gloves , applying to the blue tack/chewing gum , leaving a few minutes and then rubbing off with a towell and then extract.

It's important to apply any solvents carefully as you do not want them to damage the carpet backing.

Cheers,

Doug

Gary,

Yes it would as blue tack is made from synthetic rubber which will flow when heated.

Chewing gum is also made from rubber,  but it is worth noting that different molecular weight rubbers will have different properties,  so not every bit of chewing gum will be as easy to remove.

Cheers,

Doug

Alltec's chewing gum remover works well on Blue tac, Cleaned lots of Dental surgeries that seem to have it on. Comes in liquid and Aerosol

Hi All

Used White Spirit on Chewing Gum and Blue Tac, it works a treat. Also got some Gum, Tar and Nail polish remover from "Extracta" up in the Team Valley, Gateshead. This is in an aerosol this also works a treat.

May all your problems be little ones !
