My heating element ( and I presume the pump etc ) is starting to get a limescale buildup on it.

Would it be OK to flush through with something like Calgon or an  industrial de-scaler? Will it effect the fibreglass housing? Also what is the best way to keep your jets flowing freely, do you take them out and soak them?

I'm in a hard water  area and so this is an on going problem.

I use Phos from Clover Chemicals, excellent stuff. A local janitorial supplier should have it or ring Clover on 01663 733 114 and ask for a local supplier.

Thanks Dennis thats handy I have some Phos in stock.

Without sounding too thick, how do you use it. Do you make a solution up in a bucket and put your floor tool in it for a couple of mins and then do the same with your clean water tank.

I've got a Ninja with a Steamate so I dilute it 1 part Phos to 50 parts water and run it through for 30 - 45 minutes with the heater at 60 degrees. I also attach the solution hoses and run it through them and finally attach the wand and upholstery tool and run it back to the tank for 5 - 10 minutes.

If you have the in tank heater put it in neat until the scale has gone from the element, top up with water and do pipes and tools.

When you finish run 2-3 lots of fresh water through to get any residue out.

When you have finished there is a really noticable improvement if water flow (or is that just because I leave it too long?  : )

The safest way is 1-1 white vinegar/water, leave in overnight.
