Advice Needed
« on: June 09, 2010, 05:02:02 pm »
Hello Everyone,
Well ive been a window cleaner for four whole days now!!
Got made redundant and decided to invest in a van and a 350 ltr pure freedom system, got the logo'd shirts, had a few thousand leaflets done and off i went with them. ive dropped around 700 at a guess and now have a grand total of 3 customers, and a few "i'll get back to you's including a very large commercial, which frightens the life out of me if im honest.
what id like to know is when canvassing, which i have'nt done as yet, just posted leaflets, do you target a certain type of house, or knock all doors, do the ones with the dirtyest windows you could imagine (maybe not)want a window cleaner? or do you just walk on by and look out for the "houseproud" type of house?>
thanks in advance.
Gary

Knock 'em all.
I have found that if the windows are minging they probably wont want a window cleaner as say "I do them myself" .... yeah, sure you do!

Yeah "I do them myself as and when required"  ;D
Always the filthiest in the street, some people are unbelievable when they say that to you and you have to bite your lip!
I had one bloke once who said to me " to be honest with you I don't bother getting my windows cleaned and im not planning to".
I had to admire his honesty.

You'll be surprised mate, like I was about who wants a window clean, you can never tell, posted my leaflets from high earning dual income professionals to the smaller 3 bed semi and terrace and even little bungalows and got customers from the whole spectrum, makes the round interesting too, so just get cleaning, everyone needs them done.

Go for it

Really minging ones are normally rentals or just disgusting people. These are the ones who let you do an initial clean then immediately cancel.

With leaflets you will get a (slow) steady stream for about a year.  Don't expect them to call that night.  Door knocking sucks, but will get you work quicker.

Door knock them all - ( except maybe the ones with burnt out cars in the front garden )

NEVER EVER pre judge any potential job - i've had really bad houses that just could not find/get a w/c to sparkling places that are fed up doing them themselves.

big or small give it a go.

Door knocking usually returns me 2 w/c jobs out of every 10 i speak to ( average )
