Well the maths would go something like:-

500,000/300(TDS) = 1,667 (litres of pure water per 25kg bag).

So roughly speaking, that's £75 to make 1,667 litres.

That is about 22 litres per £1.

If you take 15 litres as being a standard 3 bed semi, that would be about  66p per house.
Even allowing for cheaper resin and a bit lower water usage, it isn't easy to see where the 16p figure comes from.
I suppose if the cost of membranes/prefilters/small amount of post RO resin were factored in and subtracted from the resin only cost it could come down further.
However, to factor in the initial cost of the RO would be wrong IMO as housings and tubing last for years (freeze-ups excepted).

I do a small amount of window cleaning along with other cleaning. My tap water is around TDS 275 and I use DI only. I keep my costs down by using rainwater with a TDS of 20 for as much as possible. (about 40%)

The DI units are 8l plus 2x 1l

So far I have produced 500l on the same resin.

If work volumes pick up I would get a RO system

Cheers

I use a 300gpd RO from pure freedom with a booster pump, makes 200 litres in 5 hours, goes in at 280tds comes out as between 1-5

i bought a 25kg bag of resin 6 months ago and have hardly used any of it,

sod DI only lol waste of money.

Above certain volumes RO makes sense.

I have been told that the membranes need to have water passed through them frequently or they will dry out and they are expensive to replace. Since I only use wfp occasionally I have stuck to DI.
