Hi everyone,

Just wondered how any of you take payments online?

D'you use Paypal, Paypal subscriptions, bank transfers etc?

If so, how do you administer it all and track who's sent you what and take into account costs etc?

Looking to set something up fairly soon.

On line transfers works well for me as its in the next day after transfer.They use the address and postal code as refurance- or  full Name.I send a text on receipt of payment and thanks for payment.

Use Paypal. It's fantastic, cost isn't too bad either.

I think Nochex looks more pro than PayPal... Plus I've had problems in the past with PayPal with-holding money (£400) from me for 6 months for no reason - never again!

Customers dont need to be signed up to Nochex either, they just enter their card details and address, its easy.

With Nochex, do you have to swallow the costs incurred?  As I know with Paypal you can pass this on to the customer, which is a massive bonus in my opinion!

last i knew if you did this with paypal and they find out then they would close your account..

I use payment direct into my account and nochex. very good and easy, pees me off a bit having 2.9% for payments recieved and another 2.9% for transfering  into my bank account  But saves me collecting

Well I spoke with Nochex today and there's no way of automatically charging the customer the 2.9% and 20 pence fees incurred using their system.  That's a massive issue in my opinion seeing as Paypal offers this so you don't actually lose any money.

Should a customer find this a problem, then I'd quite happily raise the issue that they're already paying for a stamp, and that I'm still happy to accept cheques!

Does anyone have any experience with finding it hard to pass the fee on to the customers?

I considered putting a note on my website next to the nochex payment button asking for  50p to be  added to all nochex payments, would help if not cover all charges. But i decided i would rather lose 40-50p than lose a lot more money and time collecting!

I don't do collecting, just payment on the door or cheques in the post, but 2.9% plus 20 pence per transaction is a lot of money out of my pocket every month!

Think I need to look into all of this a bit more.

The only way I take payments online is directly by bank transfer.  This is free for me and the customer.  If the customer doesn't have internet banking, it is usually possible to set it up via telephone banking - so it will cost them a brief phone call (cheaper than a stamp).  In fact, I will need to put about 50 - 75% of my prices up this year by a pound (two in some cases).  I will tie this in with paying via internet banking as although it will cost them an extra pound, they can save 30 or 40p of that because they will no longer need a stamp.
