hi im fairly new to this forum, i see a few posts about how much people charge
i work on a rough guide of £1 per window, more for large windows or french doors.
does this seem about the right price , i live in cheltenham and theres plenty of people with money round here.
compared to other peoples prices i think i might be too cheap?

If theres lots of money floating about in your area aim to earn £60-80 ph glass time.
So price according.

Sounds a good rule of thumb to me ... and say on a 3-facet bay window charge £2.50 for the bay. And £2 for a set of patios.

So a 3 bed semi with upper and lower bays plus door and one window at the front; 4 at the back inc patios; 2 on the side = £14.00 regular monthly. (Taking about 14 mins "on the glass time")

Maybe have the following add-ons (but just bundle them in the price.)

First clean add 25/100% depending how filthy they are.

Poor access/parking £1

On it's own £1/£2

Every two months add 25% over monthly (e.g. £14 house becomes £17.50)

And possible reductions:

Three or four together from one van move. £1 per house

One person pays for neighbours regularly £1 for that house

Also minimum charge for any job that requires a separate van move; say £10. Possibly £8 for a standalone "fronts" only.

Use the above as a guideline not a rigid rule.

Are you comparing the prices of other cleaners in your area or
guys on this forum.
Never listen to the guys who boast about how much they are earning on this forum
one minute they are earning £500 a day the next minute they are crying because their
battery has died.
Successful people never need to boast about what they earn.
Its best to try and find out what the successful window cleaners are charging in your
work area and go from there.
Match their price and do a better job.

im probably averaging £25 ph but most of my jobs are spaced out so could be better, some people around here are charging double, but then again some old guys with a ladder that have been doing for years charge a lot less, is £25 to £30 an hour about right??

Not per hour if driving around etc. per hour glass time, if i am parked up in a road and have 6/8 fronts to do it would take an hour. If i had 4 £15 semis to do on same street it would£60. If i have 2 on 1 street and 2 on another then would be 70 mins but 60 of it is glass time.
If hourly rate average with driving and putting out and packing away then £25/30 is good and the norm id say.

ok i see what you mean, yes including driving. as im new and theres so much competition out there its hard to get houses close to together with out driving, but i cant complain, im earning a desent wage for minimal hours

if you get about 75% of the jobs you are quoting for your pricing is about right

what the others are saying is right find out what other good window cleaners are charging and then price accordingly,if you do a good job and are reliable that will put you in a good position to maintain and grow your business,don't worry about the ones doing it cheaper they will always be around and they also come and go as they aren't charging enough to run a proper business. Anyone can be busy and cheap,but that's what they get known for,and that's how they will always be,cheap busy and knackered. Work your pricing out and stick with it. Good luck

Mind you Colin some other window cleaners prices are not worth copying.

E.G.

In a row of 40 semi's I do 16 of them priced approximately as above.

There are at least 3 other window cleaners doing the same row doing two here or three there.

One of those window cleaners has a pair of the row and I know he charges £20 each. They stay with him. Another does three separate ones at the same price as me approx. Another does a pair at a tenner each. There may be others.

Why do not my sixteen and the £20 pair and the three similar to mine all go to the tenner a go man? Not just price is it?

Don't think anybody is saying its all about the price.
But lets say your a new start and head out tomorrow to canvass them 40 semis
what price do you charge?
At least if you know some cleaners are charging £20 and others are charging £10
it then gives you something to go on.
