exploding pole hose
« on: May 01, 2010, 07:20:41 am »
I use microbore hose then have about a metre of pole hose connected to a tap on my hip as Gardiners supply. This short length of hose obviously can't take the pressure of the microbore and so swells and splits if the pressure is too high.
Since fitting a new pump my varistream seems very sensitive to temperature. First thing in the morning my pressure has to be cranked up two points to stop it cycling. By the afternonn I have too much pressure and if I don't reduce it in time I often blow the hose.

Anyone else have this? Or has anyone found a tougher similar diameter pipe?

I just use a water stop connector on the end of my minibore, when I unplug it the varistream stops the pump within 3/4 seconds. When I plug back in I have water Immediately with the bit of pressure that's built up, then the pump cuts back in. This works perfectly day in day out for me, have you tried this way Dave?

I have a stop connector on the microbore but whilst the pole is connected and the tap is off the pressure can be a bit much for that short bit of pole hose. Usually get caught out when i'm stood in the warm sunshine and a customer won't stop talking. The hose gets a bit supple and expands with the pressure. I always carry spares so it's easily fixed. Just a bit embarrassing when the water shoots down the front of my shorts.

Yer: The black bit is the bit of pole hose that takes all the pressure with the tap closed. Just would like some stronger hose 'cos i'm not wanting to change the set up as it's how i've always worked and don't want a tap on the microbore itself  :)

only one connection, rather than the two you have, less chance for leaky leg syndrome and it'll stop swollen hose disease.

Thanks, but like I said I don't want the tap on the microbore.
The way i have it works fine until that bit of pipe goes, never leaks and i don't have the tap to wind in.

Clearly the way you have it doesn't work fine as you have exploding hose. The pole hose is not designed to be used under pressure. Why cant you replace it with a section of minibore?

there is nothing stopping you putting another quick release on the other side of the tap if you don't want to reel it in.

but I never have to reel mine in, i just keep it attached till i get back to the hose reel.

I have a gas valve fitted as well, works well. Just a thought, could the change in pressure be related to a dropping battery voltage through the day. I've found this to be a problem with varistream myself.

Dont have the pressure too high on your Varistream or flow controller, i usually have mine on 28-30. When you switch your valve to off, knock the switch or flow controller off, then release what pressure's left in the hose by turning on your pole valve, so remaing water comes out of hose before using it again.

Hope its been a little bit o' help :)

i don't use a tap any more, used to use a trigger  , but nowadays just fold pole hose over to stop flow.
