If a member of staff is abusing or neglecting their equipment that’s one thing; improperly trained is another. Don’t ever expect a member of staff to treat their equipment how you as the owner treats and views that equipment.

As for deducting money from their wages, that’s illegal. That’s worse than neglecting equipment. If that happened to me when I was employed you’d be dragged over the coals.

If you are going to get an extreme pole then put an extreme brush on it.

Doesnt seem much point buying the lightest pole available and putting a brick on it.

I mainly use the 35cm xtreme sill brushes on my  everyday xtreme pole these days. They are the fastest brush IMO once you get used to them. 4 x 1.4mm pencil jets on a high flow gets the job done quicker, easier and more effective.

Like I said, you’re assuming.
Having 5 staff and never having had what this guy is experiencing no it’s not assumption it’s a fact , my staff generally use slx poles and they are replaced after around 3 years of use , yes get an odd issue but it’s rare in that 3 year period that anything is replaced on the pole , get the odd  broken lever and over the years a couple of section one on the pole due to careless closing of stiff windows and that’s it if the poles are lucky they might get the tape replaced once a year , and that’s using theses poles 6-8 hours a day 5 days a week ,so what the op is experiencing is not normal

I would fully expect an SLX pole used every day should last around 3 or 4 years before needing replacing.

I just use xtreme poles and I replace them approx every 2 years (give or take a few months)

Checked van tyre pressures and condition(good)
WD40 on ladder clamps/padlock
Screwed some new hooks in shed/general tidy up
Run van engine for 30 mins to prevent flat battery (I've not driven it for 11 days)
Filled up a container with ice melt grit for some customers driveways if it's icy in the new year.
Cleaned my 2 main 35cm brushes

Garage now clear of junk ready for new roller door getting fitted this friday. Skip got collected yesterday.

It's going to be a good start to the new year. Remember PPPPPP!

Ive streamlined everything now to do with my van. I only have a box of nitrile gloves in the cab (and a pair of glacier gloves if it gets really cold),1 hat,1 cap and 2 goretex jackets.

You’re assuming it’s abuse. If you expect an employee to start paying out of his own pocket for wear and tear you’re gonna be looking for new employees.

How can you expect an employee to pay for equipment? They’re not an employee by definition if that’s what’s happening.

What’s being described is not normal ware and tare  none of my staff have ever had any issues like this , it’s misuse of equipment could be deliberate or lack of understanding how to use the pole if after  training nothing changes it’s abuse of kit , so either he pays for it or is sacked end of

Daz why is that sediment filter so orange ? Reason I’m asking is I’ve used an ro system for 17 years and never had a filter that colour
4 month intervals(sediment and chlorine filters). Same condition as last time.

It’s rust from old metal pipes

My van is 18 years young and I bought those pellets Mike Brewer advertises for £45 for 5. Put them in my tank 10 years ago and can count on one hand how many times my light has came on.

Yesterday and today we were all down helping my mate who owns a garage fill 3 big holes in the garage floor where we removed the car oven from so he can get another 2 ramps fitted. I provided all the tools, Mixer, and kango. Started at 7am and finished for 1pm. We got all the stuff from B&Q because nowhere was open and I used my van 8 times to deliver it but its only 2 miles away. This will give it a week to cure and he will get the ramps fitted in 28 days when fully cured.

My starter motor went a few weeks ago and my mate swapped it over in 20 minutes because he has the 4 ton ramp. It cost me less than £150 for a new one and he did it for free. Turns out he is the handiest mate I have now but as long as we all work as a team and help each other everything just clicks into place.

What I'm trying to say is, if you find or have a mate who is a mechanic then try and hang on to them like me. I started off cleaning his windows for free and still clean them which takes 5 minutes every month. Drop in a box of orange mechanic gloves now and then when discussing how to make our working life easier but it all comes down to being a team player.
