Title: On the Tools
Post by: Bungle on September 24, 2021, 11:03:48 am
I hate that term. You can hardly call a carbon fibre pole a tool can you. We're not a proper trade.

Someone that says we don’t use proper tools is the kind of person that cleans 50 quid jobs for 25,no self worth or confidence.

Quite right. I can buy a shovel for £15 but a £3,500 van system + £500 on a pole aren't proper tools.  ::)roll

Someone that comes out with a comment like that is a proper tool.

Stick together lads depression amongst window cleaners when you wake up and go out cleaning windows just think to yourself you are not doing a proper job that should make you feel a better person.
I’m seriously thinking about saying that to my accountant he might tell me I don’t need to pay anymore Tax ever again, not sure the HMRC view it like that though when money keeps going into my bank lol.

Who said a carbon fibre pole was a tool?

I don’t think that even justifies a reply if I’m honest.

Tool:
a device or implement, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function.

therefore it is a tool

Trade::
a job requiring manual skills and special training. - the special training may be subjective - some people just cant handle a pole or a squeegee

On this very rare occasion he’s right though. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I think NWH knows I’m not his biggest fan but even I’d say he’s about right this time.

You might want to self depreciate yourself but the OP makes you sound like you’re grumpy everyone else isn’t doing the same.

Is he ? if bricklaying, plastering, joinery, electrical work and so on where as easy as window cleaning we would all be living in self built homes, we are cleaners, its nothing to be ashamed about but a trade its not.

Have you seen or had a conversation with a plasterer or bricklayer lately it’s not like talking to Jeremy Paxman now is it.

My point was, who cares?

The OP “hates” the use of the word.
And the wants “the nause” banned again because he doesn’t agree.

Why? Who cares that much about the word “tools” and whether NWH is an absolute melt on here?

If you don’t value what you do you’ll never achieve a decent living at this game.

i like it......."on the tools" and im part of the "window cleaning trade" sounds good to me...... :)

i love the simplicity of cleaning....when i look at builders, plasters, joiners, etc it makes me feel so lucky that i dont have to faff about like they have to do to get a job completed....

On the tools means working at the glassface in the window cleaning game.

I am 'on the tools' - 8 weekly is a 'gangmaster'. 🤣

On the tools is a phrase typically used by a person who has a handful of folk working for them and who has progressed 'off the tools'.

When he/she covers for one of his/her staff or helps out physically then said 'gang master' is on the tools for a while.

You're most welcome.

And you know what, we're probably making more per day than you're average plasterer or bricklayer. So stick that in your tool and smoke it  ;D

I dunno about that! Plasterers earn less, but my mate who’s a self employed plumber is on stupid money. Makes window cleaners look poor.

Even plasterers earn well these days, and they usually get lump sums/day rates paid in one go. Which is much better than ‘dribs and drabs’ from window cleaning customers.

Most of the trades earn very well these days, including us window cleaners, who have it easiest by far in terms of work/life balance.

My sparky is doing ridiculous money these days as well. He’s been doing fuse boxes for a landlord in London, £900 a pop. Done in a day.

Some great trades out there!

Trades wax and wane. Good luck to those on the "up" at the moment. It's cyclical.

There’s always a shortage, and with young lads preferring an office based job, a lot of the trades are only going to be more lucrative in the coming years.
