2” hose creates less turbulent airflow  (laminar airflow)than 1 1/2” hose which creates more turbulent  airflow so it’s more efficient.  The longer the hose run the more noticeable the difference is.  When using a 25’ length of hose you may not notice a difference but over 50’ or more you certainly would.  In simple terms I think it may be described as friction between the moving air and the inside of the hose and the 1 1/2 “ hose creates more ‘friction’ so looses more energy than the 2”. Hope this helps.

A 2inch hose will give more air flow and more airflow will give drier and cleaner carpets.

But what happens when it is connected to a 1.5inch wand? Are all the benefits wasted?

It would be good to measure the a amount of air expelled out of the vacuum motors when the wand is put out on the carpet as this is really the only way to measure the true performance of our machines

It has the effect of moving the performance closer to the wand. It has less overall resistance therefore more overall performance.

I've got 2 inch
.

Want inch and half as it's more manageable and at 25ft little difference... seen as you have to use a 1.5 whip...
