All i could think was look at all that manual winding and humping reel in and out.

The novelty will wear off soon.

He’s done it for the publicity. There’s a few on the Facebook forums doing it then phoning the papers.

My missus sent me the link about it. I replied with the same. He doesn’t give a hoot about the signs, it’s publicity.

Mmmm. Then he should have a sign written van to get the most mileage from it.

All our gardens in our area are tended by volunteers. The council has provided the plants but weeding and general maintenance is mainly done by an army of retired volunteers.

There is also a beach clean every so often to pick up litter and sadly, there is also a dog muck pickup on one of our footpaths through the forest as some dog walkers won't pick up after their pets.

Same here; but they can get lost if they think I'm going to clean them.

I think there was a boy on here a few years back who approached the highways agency with the idea of cleaning the signs. I have it in my head that they kitted his van out for him and let him do it.

In all fairness its a great publicity stunt. Free advertising.
But what happens when all the signs are now clean,  what will he move onto doing?
Wasnt there an article about someone filling a paddling pool for ducks or something not that long back?  Or a chap who cleaned war memorial statues as well?

Not quite in line with the thread, but what are the thoughts on the window cleaning world cup thingy?

There's a guy round here that got in the paper because he wears a kilt. I know a window cleaner a little further south who pays to advertise in that paper, he was fuming. All the comments were middle aged women saying ''i'll foot his ladder for him''  ::)roll

I advertise that on my website but not for free. I always put it on their bill.

I was asked to price road signs by the local council.

Needless to say my price was much more than free. So much so that we didn't get the job, neither did anyone else judging by the state of the road signs..

I had a short term contract back in the day with West Midlands County Council ( now disbanded) they paid me per square mile which worked out to be approx. £2 per sign. My average per Sunday morning was approx. 80 signs!

Good on him if he’s doing it for his business if he sits at home not working claiming benefits he’ll get slated,if he uses his initiative no matter for what reason he gets slated.
I think you can safely say it’s the British way of looking at things, big companies would be and have been all over that kind of PR game for years.

Point being that very little is done for the good of others without wanting to draw attention to themselves for doing so for some type of gain.
Haha even the big guns doing charitable things is a way of tax avation and self praise.
I know plenty of ones who just help for the sake of helping and want no attention for doing so, even if attention came their way they wouldnt accept it, unless it broight attention to the plights of the people they are helping.

But no one slating this chap for his publicity stunts, unless ive misread anyones posts on here

No Nathan it’s called the world we live in like it or not I’m afraid, for every person that’s willing to do a good genuine deed there’s 100s of others with the complete opposite in mind.
The lad is trying to drum up business fair play to him he’s using his initiative and it’s free,if I needed the work I might do the same thing,I would never knock someone for making an effort the lads doing nothing illegal.

I've stopped and done probably about a dozen signs. All but two of them were road name signs that I'd had trouble seeing. The other two were speed limit signs that were literally unreadable. Didn't want anyone to be caught speeding without a warning.

Didn't get in the paper, though!

I cleaned all the road signs in our village for free one Saturday morning. One sign made me chuckle when I cleaned it, a triangle sign with an adult and child walking holding hands. Someone (years ago) had scrawled a big willy on the adult. Now it's there for all to see!

I did get a write up in the local Parish mag and a few jobs from it. The signs were cleaned 2 years ago and are still clean. *polishes finger nails on lapel*
