So do i need to do anything regarding these GDPR changes? I would rather not do anything, but if legally every business owner has to make changes, what are you guys doing?
I know this sounds bad, but right now i just cant be arsed, got way too much going on. Is any of this legal or necessary for us window cleaners with our customers/employees? If i have to make changes then i will, but not doing anything until i know what you lot on here are doing ;D ;D ;D ;D

Im of the thinking that I will cover my bases with a disclaimer on my website as to what I hold their personal information for and to be clear it wont be sold for marketing purposes 😂
For the large part, i have stored street names and villages. Also contact telephone numbers which obviously are consented to giving or else I wouldnt have them.
Financial details are held with GoCardless or paypal and not directly with me.

However if your not selling the info on, only use it for relavant business use and not spamming your customers then things shouldn't be wildly different from what you are doing now.
if your using cloud you need to know where your info is kept as some countries are "not secure" ( USA is one of them ) unless you have extra security on your system

My customer’s data is stored on Aworka. I don’t give it out ir sell it. What they gonna do? Arrest me? For what?

I know I’m getting irritated by all the emails telling me I need to resubscibe.
I’ve ignored it from a business point of view for the same reasons as above. The data isn’t sold and is only used for the purpose of fulfilling the service.

I would be doing something if I was employing a few staff etc.
As a sole trader I don't give a rat's arse tbh.
I don't have any customer info, the software I use does but I don't have anything written down anywhere.

anyone know if u can still email your customer database with offers (which I usually do once every year or 2) without doing anything or have i gotta send an email round asking to opt in.... my feelings if i do this I will get a low response as most people won't respond

Technically I would say the answer is yes
But somewhere there has to be common sence on a small company sending an odd email that is specific to its customers (but dont hold your breath)

Perhaps they wont zero in on the likes of small businesses. However, if you get investigated by inland revenue, bet they will check if your compliant and put extra pressure on you. Ild sooner cover my back with a statement on my website etc evennif its peace of mind. Because if it does get used to bite you in the backside, i bet it will be a nasty bite as well.

I'll get something chucked on to the website then that settles it. Not doing anything else though. Atleast i will know i am not the only one on here who cant be bothered with it all!

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and tell you that GDPR does NOT apply to most of us. Neither does the Data Protection 1998 or whatever it is. These Data Protection Policies that people are putting on their websites are a complete waste of time, and infact may even land you in trouble . Same whether you're a sole trader or you employ 10 cleaners. You're all EXEMPT.............

And, BTW if you think i'm wrong and you're not exempt, then you better get registering as a data controller, just putting up a Policy on your website won't cut the mustard...............
