Title: Burner unit from this?
Post by: Richy L on April 24, 2010, 05:15:14 pm
I've recently bought a burner unit for my pressure washer.

Would I be able to use one of these to power it from my van? Its a diesel burner, the elctric is just for the ignition spark.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Max-100W-POWER-INVERTER-12V-DC-to-220V-AC-USB-5V-9845_W0QQitemZ200445050133QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2eab74bd15

How long could I use it for before my van battery runs down?

cheers

its too small.

the burner will jump upto a 1000w for a second as it starts, then settle down to a constant 250w( the actual figures are approx but you get the idea)

you will need spmething like this

http://www.in-car-stuff.com/shop/1000-watt-mains-power-inverter-240v-2000w-peak-p-235.html?ad=froogle

and it is not to just power  the spark, it also has a large fan built in

Then when you want to go home and the van won't start ! I'd get a small suitcase. I had a panic job last night - a large oil spill outside a wedding venue with seven weddings today. The hotbox won't go in the van with the jetter and all the other gear so off I went in the bouncy castle van - you should have seen their faces when I pulled up :o :o :o :o

Heheh, I bet they were dissapointed when you got a pressure washer out!

What type of suitcase generator would be needed?

what power draw is the burner? check the spec then get one to match.

but unless you van battery is always 100% charged you will have problems and you need a drect feed from the battery with thick jump lead cable, you can't plug it into your cig lighter

I have a 1 KVA stephill and it'll run a travel kettle. No they were pleased the boss got someone in because it meant they could get home - they were decorators who's cherry picker had leaked and were using a 4hp washer !

You've been recommended a suitcase generator by BDCS. That's what I use. Mine is from Machine Mart 850 watt, runs on 2 stroke and perfect for the job - 80 quid!!!

I run a 1000 watt inverter in my van but this is run from 2 x 110amp batteries that are on a heavy duty split charge relay, I would never try and power heavier equipment from it. It runs my telly and lights.

Terry supplies suitable inverters for £55 which can connect to your pressure washer battery if you have elec start.
