Title: help uv proofing a holding tank/ibc
Post by: rich fraser on April 24, 2010, 01:57:35 pm
i now have a ibc at home to hold purified water ready to transfer into my van. only problem is i dont have anywhere to put the ibc under cover. i know the tds of purified water rises if it is exsposed to prolonged sun light. is there any paint or material you can recommend to cover the tank up? I cant build a shed around the tank because of my land lords daft rules, however hes not bothered about the ibc!?
Any help appreciated.

A tin of dark emulsion will do the trick.
Or use gaffertape to tape black bin liners on it.
Or as you will be wise to insulate it for next winter then lag it with loft insulation or use polystyrene sheets. Both will have the added benefit of darkening the tank inside.

you can buy black ibc's,
not what you wanted to hear though, if you have just bought a clear one.

The black ones are just spray painted, they are white inside.Use a strip of masking tape down the length so you can see the level of the water.
I thing I would clad it in insulation board which will serve both purposes.

Your right  8) the black is impregnated into the white plastic, doesnt scrath off more like had to dig it out to get at the white bits, maybe it would need an undercoat to get paint to stick. Mine was from DV fuels, brought it home on the roof rack- not reccomended  ::)

mine was from dv fuels , bought it a couple of years ago , on the way back from a trip to the lake district, bet that was fun on the roof rack of your berlingo.

was going to get a black one but they had non in stock, mine is in a shed anyway , so no problems with green algae ;)

Your water will constanlty be moving, i doubt anything will happen that quick. My opinion
