Title: NFMWC - BWCA - Guild
Post by: Darranvps on April 24, 2010, 06:23:11 am
Which of these have you joined.

Myself I have gone for BWCA as I find them the most modern, with a fresh approach.

NFMWC - I was a member last time round, but sorry to see it looking so dated, it could use some help.

Guild - Seems pointless

Going up to Bradford in a mo so i'll read answers when I get back

Isn't the BWCA tied into ionics? I've never been on one of their courses but I have been told that they are little more than a thinly veiled sales routine for ionics products that you have to pay the privilege of sitting through? Please correct me if I'm wrong,.. just repeating 3rd hand info here,....
Regardless of that,.. ANY organisation that aims to make our industry more professional is a good thing. If it takes a sales routine to make it profitable, so be it, it's still a good thing.

The Guild is a lot smaller, but far from pointless. In a couple of years it will be a serious contender for top spot,.. at the moment its still in its infancy and I will admit it is more of a marketing tool for its members than anything else. It is an effective marketing tool though, many members listings on the Guild website rank very high in Google and have brought them in work,... I've yet to google a window cleaning company and have their info pop up from the BWCA or NFMWC websites. :)

I joined the guild & I'll tell you this-

That little "badge" in each top corner of my paperwork/invoices has had more positive affect on my business than anything for quite a while! ;)

I'll be honest, that's the biggest reason why I joined BUT-

1. I trust them
2. I believe their intentions & actions to be sincere
3. The membership fee is peanuts

Three things I can't personally say about the others. ;)

I'm not allowed to post it!

Google "The Master Guild of Window Cleaners" and you should find it.

No worries Nathanael

Just my personal feelings & findings, the guild will have my support every year now as it's more than exceeded my expectations! ;)

what did u have to do to join the BWCA?
I just phoned them up, and went on a one day health and safety course, at their HQ in Swindon.
Nobody tried to pressure us into buying anything.
I have been on many courses in the past, and to be honest it was pretty much the same. I think the course tutor could have done with speaking up a bit (maybe I'm getting cloth eared :P) but overall it was OK.
What I did like was the nice looking paperwork and ID badge - customers sometimes ask to see evidence of training, and these do the job.

I have never joined any of the ones that are specific to window cleaning but I have joined the FSB (Federation iof Small Businesses).  At £100 a year (about £130 for the first year) the main benefits for me are free business banking at a place other than <spit> Santander and providing assistance (incl. accountancy fees) should the IR decide to investigate.  Although I run a straight business, such things can take up a lot of head space and end up expensive even for the innocent.

It depends on your browser,..  if you've looked at a page recently, internet explorer will sometimes show you what you looked at last time instead of downloading a fresh version of the page, so you have to refresh the page to see any recent changes.

Your member pack went in the post this morning too,.. on the slow boat from Ireland but hopefully it'll be with you by the end of the week.
