I've cleaned with a TDS of 30 before, by accident, and went back out to check a few windows and they were fine.

I've heard guys here routinely cleaning with a TDS of 15, but to be honest - I use a RO mainly - and when my TDS rises above 0 I just change the resin.

When your TDS rises above zero, which if you use a back pack, will be some months away, then change only the resin and you'll find it's all okay.

I change my pre-filters about once-per-year if I'm lucky, and I change my RO filters when they're knackered (but my first lasted me about three years).  I knew they were knackered because I had to change my resin after about a week, when usually it's a couple of months.

Don't forget to flush your RO filter at least once a week.  If you don't know how to do this (it's ultra simple) post back.

the difference between 000ppm and 6ppm is
miniscule has no effect on the standard of cleaning
it has been said before we only purify our water to
parts per million if it had to be to parts per billion
a small rise in tds would make a difference.

but hey carry on paying out for resin and filters
if it suits you :)

You really don't have to understand how it all works from a chemistry angle.  I've read about the dionisation process that happens when you pass water through resin, and I don't really 'get it'.

All I know is that I've cleaned with a TDS of 30 by accident, and when I went back and checked some of my work it looked how it should look.  So I know if my TDS is 5 or 6, I know the work will be fine.  But as I say, I don't use much resin since I use an RO and I don't use more than 150 litres per day usually, so when my TDS is above zero, I just change the resin.

I have always tried to keep mine at 000, but my tds went up to 003 this week and the windows were still coming up perfect. But I'll change the filters this weekend to be safe.

Your probably right mate, I just wait until the tds reading goes up above 000. And I change the lot, usually about every 3-4 months.

hi mate i use about 650ltrs a day i have a seperate merlin filter system in my garage with a 1000ltr holdong tank the merlin brings it down to 10 then my di vessels bring it to 00 change resin about 2 a year so i change my resin when it changes to 001 dont take any chances as the numbers can go up quickly, also the resin in the di cannisters can earn you thousands so dont scrimp to save yourself a few quid   CHANGE THEM !!!!
