Title: Any idea what could have caused this ?

Bit of a mix really,found this under a bed in a 2 bed eot,also another big square patch under a sofa in the lounge.
Tenant had attempted clean with a rug doctor,carpets smelt mouldy,brown marks look like blood,some may be from furniture rust marks,where it`s not been isolated,others from around a shrine,place stank of curry,and not in a nice way,stale and minging !!!

Pics not the best,but you get the idea,think it`s going to be a job for the carpet fitter,didn`t really make much of an improvement.

Agree with your last statement there Mark; job for a carpet fitter. Could be just about anything and everything. Def rust marks where the furnitures been.

Yeah didn`t even bother with any attempt at getting them out,i cleaned this flat last year,carpets were in very good condition.Don`t think they will be getting their deposit back,wonder what it was that caused such severe bleaching

I had a customer last year that tried drain cleaner, flash, Ciff, bleach and fair liquid on her carpet. Think she went a bit crazy after her husband died and wanted rid of the urine, blood stains etc... (he was a poorly) Those stains in the pics remind me of the NON CARPET CLEANING products that she tried using!

You mentioned strong stink of curry in the flat. Those orange and red stains also look like curry too..

Could be that some peed in the chair and teh result is colour change/loss or they have cleaned the chair and wet it through and the water has damaged the carpet fibres.

Ritual oils ,mostly stain  I get the remedy sent from India. Marvellous  but really expensive. Ask a a Pundit for a local source.
