Post by: misterrartois on August 09, 2005, 05:56:08 pm
Hi all...newbie here.Ive just got hold of a new petrol pressure washer off ebay..(bit risky i know, but the guy had a 100% rating)and there are 2 problems...
1)the engine idles for a bit but always cuts out.

2)the wand doesnt  work when pulling the trigger...water just comes out anyway..regardless !

Appreciate any help...especially from people who use them all the time?

Thanks for listening.

hi dnt know much about these but i got a honda its 8.5hp and its powerfull enough to pull its own water through, i wander if thats your problem,  its not powerfull enough.  i have to wait a couple of seconds for the pressure to build but then its fine.. and sorry to make it obvious but if it was new have u put oil in it, cos i got geni this week and that didnt run properly then i noticed it didnt have any oil inside it,

failing this get hold of the bloke that sold it to you

Hi
Regarding not running check the air filter first if it is choked up it will not run correctly.  Simply take it off and try running without it if ok buy a new filter.

Check plug and clean.

If water is coming all the time trigger is worn out buy new from £12 to £30
You do not have to replace wand if you can simply unscrew from trigger.
If the trigger is worn then good chance the tip of wand is worn and also unloader valve is worn tip is couple of pounds valve from £25 to £50.

Good Luck

George

Hello,
From the faults that you explain, indicates the eqipment requires cleaning thoroughly and a engine service.   I had the some problems with my pressure washer after standing for a long time when it had been working hard.

Have a word with the person who sold the item to you and see what help they are welling too give.

Think on the lines of the sale of goods act.

Ebay are very helpful on complaints. I would use this method first before spending my money.
kind regards.
Christopher.

Thanks for the replies guys!
All sorted..turns out it was a dodgy trigger and a dirty spark plug!

Great forum by the way.
