Title: Business card stand at Tesco
Post by: A+CleaningService on April 15, 2010, 07:25:22 pm

I was approached by a company today, that deal with the business-card stands at Tesco's, advertising different businesses in the local area.
Has anyone else used this? Get much work from it?

They asked me for £600 for two years. With  a deposit and the rest by installments.

This form of advert is useless as it is passive and you stand more chance of winning thge loto than getting business.Leaflets is the only way and knocking.

I don't shop at Tesco. The Tesco here is only a few months old.  I offer more than one service, i thought it might be handy for carpets too.
But the feedback I have had, looks like its a no no.

i think the same company stand in tesco is also in homebase n focus but money wise i suprised you have even given it any thought - def not worth for this trade.

when my equipment freezes up again.

FUNNY story,
There is a small stand in my local tesco, for ages it was empty, so I stuck a load of my own cards in there whilst shopping with the family.

Restocked myself every shopping trip for bout 4 months till i eventually got a phonecall telling me to stop.

took them a while,
I got a good few calls and a couple of gem jobs!

Paper shop hasn't brought 1 call in yet ! in last 2 years!

My experience has taught me that for the most part, you are your best advert.

Turn up on time, well turned out, shaved, [or with a tidy beard], not stinking of tobacco/drink, and with clean clothes.

Do a good job, at a decent price, and you will get recommended.

[The ladies amongst you may ignore the bit about shaved - I think!]

I believe it was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said something along the lines of,

"Build a better mousetrap/ preach a better sermon/ write a better book and the world will beat a path to your door."

stay well clear i used this form of advertising about 5 years ago for a kitchen fitting business i used to run in 2 years i got 2 jobs wich luckily about broke even but the proffit per job was far higher  but i still worked for nothing , it  would take a lot of cleans on 2 houses to make a proffit as someone said before  your money would be better spent on canvassing
