Be prepard for some possible fallout, I have had problems in the past with dust and sand in the air so I guess this could be the same, Although on a positive side, if its bad enough it could generate some new work. ;)

Not at the height that it's moving at, it's highly unlikely that it'll settle on any part of the uk
-
Depending if it mixes with rain clouds.
If it does we could have a huge influx of new customers.

All aircraft taking off fom all UK airports have been grounded
were doomed ???
-
if it does come down here, it would b the only way this country is gonna get the ashes ;D
-
It's ok. It's ok. A man HAS been arrested and put it custody for causing all this needless dust in the air. He was caught RED handed cleaning out Arsenal's trophy cabinet ;D

They're getting their revenge for Britain freezing their bank accounts a while back :)
-
All that smoke and ash coming out of Iceland. Is Kerry Katona doing another advert?
-
Iceland?
Silly little country that smells vaguely of fish.

the other side of the coin, customers might ask you to miss because the ash has to come down and dirty them

By the way brainstrains...it's upwards of 30,000ft in the sky...and not even over Britain. At least not around here anyway.

why are the airports all closed then
-
Because planes fly up to 30,000ft and it's hovering in the air around Britain, so they can't take the risk.
-
and i was supposed to be going on holiday just had an email telling me our flight has been cancelled :( :'( :-[
-
'scuse me for asking, but why couldn't the planes fly at a lower altitude?
Oh and can those turboprop "Hercules" jobbies fly? I know they're propellor driven but I think it's jet engine technology that the propellors are connected to.

They can but it cost's a fortune and uses oodles more fuel in the thicker air, they would go empty before getting there. Local may be fine but medium and long haul would be a no no.
-
Thanks for that ronnie b!

Ash cloud was defo not near me today, I was wishing it away on the school that was done, nope did not turn up, nor did it on the care home, nor the next place after, I was hoping for a short day today. Oh well owed another debt ::)

I saw a turboprop today. Civilian aircraft too... Don't know where from. Staverton, Gloucester I expect.

The way this is going my holiday may be cancelled. :'(
The ash cloud is all over the UK!
As the cloud moves south it is actually descending, so even light aircraft will be grounded soon.

Yes it has small glass particles which you cant see - Im wondering wether to ware a mask to work I will look like a dick but better than getting health problems - I have been outside working on my van all day today and yesterday and my throat is really dry chest feels wheasy? Most of us guys have no choice but to work outdoors and we cant really stop, anyway back to the mask?

It isn't glass thats in there, volcanic ash is a lot more abrassive than normal ash/dust, this is because the ash particles have very sharp edges where as dust and other ash have rounded and smooth edges. also volcanic ash can hold more water than other forms of ash and dust.
Be careful if you clean your car/van in the next few weeks as you could really damage the paintwork.

ooohh!! i dont know how we will survive ::)
bloody hell they have volcanos going off
in iceland all the time being directly on a
fault line and manage to get on okay.
we have a bit of dust floating our way and
everythings coming to an end. ::) ::)
we breed a right bunch of fannies in this
country these days.
i would be more worried about dust if through
it bullets were coming at me and i couldnt see
mines and was getting hit by roadside bombs
like our soldiers are.
talk about whinging about a minor bit of discomfort
get a flaming grip >:( >:(
-
Noticed lots of this "ash" about today, did a couple of commercial jobs and the windows were covered in the stuff. Just checked the sills on my house and they are black with the stuff, I cleaned the friday evening too. Looks like we will have a busy month!! ;D
-
I haven't seen anything.
I don't really believe it.
-
none here :)
-
Light layer over Canterbury. Cars that have been parked outside in the damp look a right mess. You can see it clearly on white sills. Looks really black when the water runs down onto it. Doesn't appear to be sticking to the glass so far.
-
i smell something
BULL SH*T
-
i smell something
Probably not, perhaps it's all the ash up your nose

It's these cloudless blue skies that concern me. ;D
-
Clear, blue, dry & sunny for next 5 days... Very worrying! ;D
-
ash on car windows and house windows sills here today, even some customers have commented on it
-
Customer tried to tell me there was ash on her car today, but when I looked it was just the usual brown dust from dry windy weather. ;D
-
...but when I looked it was just the usual brown dust from dry windy weather...
Yep, bingo. It's been dry for a week. Everyone seems to have forgotten about dust after a few months of rain. Volcanic ash indeed LOL
-
Yeh, I think you're right, and they even reckon the world is round!! Pah, we all know its flat!! ;D

You're right, might as well take an airplane up and let hundreds of people die from engine failure.

Totally agree mate, its really dusty lately, I thought the same when doing sky lights today and custy asked me to do her glass conny roof, and it all seems to be on the North side of the house so assuming it is from the ash....

Yeah, I've found most roofs today to be very dusty, with BROWN dust! Like you usually get! Not grey and carbon-like...
-
Too true squeaks....
1st time our way since last November we ain't had any rain for weeks, things get dry and dusty, just wait till it does rain though, should make the windows a right mess
