Title: How to sort this pane out

Hi
 
I've only just got going with w/c and have a question:

When it comes to price, should i go per window or pane of glass? I'm only doing domestics at the moment. I'm in the London area.

Also, what would a guide price be?

Hi Jay & welcome.

If your in the London area (which i'm not) you've cracked it!!

The prices seem to be around the highest in the country.

I'm sure some of the lads from that area will put you right, but sadly i can't.

  I used to charge per window but found this did not work as there are many
  obsticales you come accross. So now I try and and calculate how long
  it will take me, then give them a price. Find this works as long as you
  know what you want to earn per hour.

I charge per pane here in Staffordshire, and then add on anything extra for "buggeration factor"

I charge for movement i.e if its a large bay window that counts as two, 

EXTRA's
charge extra for
First floor windows
Second floor windows
Georgian windows
Leaded windows (even more if they are traditional lead)
then if its outside your round a little more to cover travel,
Then if it still seems to cheap add a little more if they jump at it then remember to charge the next one more, if they winge then you've got it right, and if they say no rethink your priceing structure. But don't underprice you'll be the one that suffers from that.

i charge per window, a house will have a few large windows and a few smaller 1's, so it all evens out

i started off chargeing 50p per window, now its close to 1 quid :)

the difference, i dont really need the work, thus i price high now

I have to say Im about a pound per window too although
I do need more work but its only been 3 months but still its working ok - touch wood

When you say per window what do you mean? I count two panes as a window, most windows are made up of two panes, one opener and the one next to it. If you are talking modern house bays, these are usually made up of five or six panes. = two and a half or three widows. door and small window next to it = one window. Do you charge more if the windows have transoms with small openers? Do you count small toilet windows as one window if you have to climb? Pricing is an art that comes with experience but I still get it wrong sometimes. There is one thing I do know, It's corners that slow you down. I think we should price not on panes, not windows. How much do you think we should charge per pane?
