Do any of you guys clean on your own street? I have resisted this in the past, but as this village has no w/c I have recently after a lot of pleading taken on a couple of days work. I am now thinking maybe this was a mistake. I went to one job today, "Oh you can leave them this time they'r not too bad" Now I don't stand for this with any my other clients. If they want them doing bi monthly fine if that's what was aggreed, and the price was given for that. The problem is that when I tried to explain this, she got mouthy. I ended up sacking her, Hell I don't need the work anyway. The problem is that these are the same people you see every week in the pub, local shop, etc. I don't want business issues to spill over to my social life. Have any of you been in this situation? What would you do. Dai

I work alot in my own town, which is fine. My own street, well I do 5 of them, started as a favour, at favour prices.
Now they are a bind, one stopped paying me! She has problems with her ex, and no money.
I would avoid it if at all poss.

I try and avoid it never seems to be time to do them, It's to early in the mornings and when you've finnished you're too tired. plus they seem to expect a sharp price.

hi all
yeah i had the same probjust a few weeks ago the lady over the road from me wanted a quote i gave her one £50 for first clean large house 3 stories high .. she said fine i can do it that week , so she was not home the whole week when i went round and i left notes etc , now things are all awkward theyb give us strange look when we come out the front door etc..... i smile but they ignore it .the i do some shops literally 30 sec walk from my flat , did 1st clean for £10 then shop owner said i told him £5 to clean the windows i said no i charge £10 cos its a duoble fronted shop.
and i charge the others in the same prescent with shops 1/4 the size of his £6 why nwould i charge you £5 so he called me a liar etc plus he said i quoted him further £5 for the sign i dont know what his talking about a 20ft long sign for £5 i dont think so . he ranted and went on , then a another owner of a shop who i charged £10 , starrted saying can you skip us this time , or you too late its 10 am , but i normally clean at 10am yeah but not today its fridays , but i cleaned it last friday at the same time , its a mm mm he didnt know what to say . so now i havr to go 5 miles to nearest shops,

Yep I try never to do any in my own street, I often get asked but I search for any exuse I generally say I would do yours for a favour but then so and so will want theirs doing and then him up the road etc they normally understand.

See, i am different here
i do loads on my street, well mine and the 1 that runs off it
the idea is, imagine the scene, been pishing down all day, it stops raining at 3, i think, i know i will go and do a few and just do them in my street, it works well, they are all trained to drop the money in, so im well happy :)
works well, i do a good job they are happy and it works for me when its a crap day and brightens up a little late afternoon

I don't do the windows of anyone I know personally apart from CLOSE friends. Too many probs in the past, and they expect cheaper cleans etc.

MATT: AGREE 100% WITH YOU:in fact have a customer no more than 500 yds away who phones me up to tell me IM A DAY LATE :o
Any customer is a customer friend or foe , helps pay the rent.
YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN WORK IF YOU WORK FOR NOTHING
you will not live rich you will die of starvation.,so my neighbours pay the same price. NO QUIBS AND OR BUTS IM IN BUISS
oNE IS A PLUMBER would I offer him free cleaning for life if he worked for me for 20 hrs? NO WAY HO SAY

DON'T DO IT
I fully agree with this one.
Personally, if I did the other houses in my drive, Wor Lass would want me to add OUR HOUSE to the list. Okay, she's a window cleaner too; but she cleans our bottom windows inside and out at least once a week.
I only do the tops (outside) when I can't stand the nagging anymore - about every three months or so - and I miss the bathroom windows - which really 'narks' her.
I know the two window cleaners who do this area and they're both good lads. I wish she would let me get them to do our windows, but she reckons that's being silly!
Women...!?!

I don't do anything in my own road.
Bunch of cheapskates. They'd all want it too cheap, and rear access can be awkward.
I think Tosh does it, so I'll leave it to him. ;)
-
Theres only about 3 people on our road that have their windows cleaned ..........scruffy lot, would'nt clean them anyway

There's only about 3 people i talk to down my street & another cleaner cleans them.
So there's no chance the other's are going to ask ME!! to do there's.
But like other's have said if your friendly with people down your street they try to abuse you & get there windows done for next to nothing.
So i will stay anti-social (with my neighbours that is)
Ray.

Is that in Garden City? Access can be awkward, but it's the best paying part of my round.
