Title: FAO "The person that took the micky out of me"
Post by: Archer on April 09, 2010, 04:15:37 pm

Just a quick post for the person that came on this forum taking the micky out of me, when i said that i would be buying 3 vans within 12 months.

Without mentioning names - you KNOW who you are !

Well, i got it all wrong, i must agree with your micky taking comments and all the  ::) ::) ::) ::) stupid pictures that came with the comments because i HAVEN'T achieved what i said i would in the period of time being 12 months.

I have actually done it from September-April , that is 8 months = I have bought and put 2 vans on the road, and now just looking to buy THAT 3rd van.

Already bought the system for it, so when the van is purchased that will be the magical 3 which i said i would get.

i WILL also have another 2 vans hopefully within 12 months - so thanks for the comments, they just made me more determined to achieve exactly what i said i would achieve.

Good on you

there are a lot on here who like to trash fellow members ambitions, either they don't have any themselves or don't know how to be sucessful in building a bigger business.

I reckon if I re mortgaged I could put three vans on the road, all paid up and fully kitted out.

Shame I haven't got the work or employees or the knowledge - or the balls - to make it all work.   ;D

The secret imo is not the vans, it making money & profit. there are window cleaners in North east, getting as much works as possible, as cheap as possible, just to be the first to 50 vans.
My dad made a million off 1 van.

Good on you Archie !!!

Sometimes it takes a bad word to drive you on. My wife did similar with me when I first started out and had problem after problem.

She told me to quit and get a national minimum wage job where I used to work. That place was soul destroying and gave me the drive to be where I am now.

I really hope that person reads this.

If it was me taking the mick archie soz about that , but maybe it spurred you on.

I've been thinking about this growth route and going down this road.

I would like to see a bit of a business plan if you or any one else has one?

More the figures really, not actuall figures (although actual rounded figures would be good).

Lets assume two vans, four employees and a turnover of 200k, Can someone give me a realistic breakdown of the approximate costs and potential profit of this?

Also what do you think the max turnover would be for one van?

One problem i forsee for me is that i do not have any of that commerical six in the morning stuff that gets the day off to a flier.

Look forward to comments

I'd be interested in figures too. One guy on his own turning over say 35k how much would he expect to increase his income  with two vans? How much actual profit could he expect?
Would two men in one van be better than two vans each with one operative?

Is it really worth the hassle of expanding, purchasing more vans, paying wages etc.?

Slumps, in percentage terms how much better off are you at the end of the year with your employee and brand new van?

Also Archer if you put three vans on the road at 2k each then it don't sound that impressive. Now if you are running three Ionics units at 30k a pop then you've really done well.

IDEALROB,

I wouldn't be putting 3 vans on the road just so i can say ive got 3 vans.

The reason is simple, obviously i do a good job and have a good approach.

In the last 2 months i have picked up quite abit of work.

Im not naming all the work ive picked up, but i now have the contracts at:

The Wheel of Manchester - cleaned weekly (all 42 capsules)
The ECHO Wheel of Liverpool - cleaned weekly (42 capsules)
Part of Manchester Printworks - fortnightly
9 Ford Garages - fortnightly

so you can clearly see this is very, very good work and thats the reason for the extra van i will be buying.

I have grown slowly since i started running my business 20 years ago, and have NEVER stood on anyones toes or undercut a fellow window cleaner.

DAVEWILLIS,

Since i started using the pole system a number of years ago, all my equipment purchased was IONICS

Everything, starting with Pro 2 trailer system, Pro 5, Ionics trolley, all my poles are Ionics from 4ft - 65ft Ergo light, and will be buying the 45ft swift in may when i take 2 lads on the course in swindon with craig.

But, unfortunatly in August last year whilst i was in Greece i telephoned them 6 times and they NEVER phoned me back as promised to give me a price for bigger system.

So i decided if they couldnt be bothered getting back to me i would spend my hard earned cash somewhere else.

I bought in September lastyear a 650ltr from Brodex and they have been superb, so i have bought 2 more systems from them, although i only use Ionics poles as in my opinion they are the best and i like them.

I have ALWAYS bought what i think to be the best equipment and looked after it, and it has looked after me,,,,,,,, Upto now anyway  ;)

I know how Archer conducts his business, he is very clever and very shrewd.

I thought I knew it all until I met him, If  only I could get him to partner up, we could conquer the world.

It just shows never judge a book by its cover.             Try reading it first.
There is good reason why we are judged at death. By then we may have achieved something, Maybe. Most judge first, not a good move!!!
