I know its been mentioned before, but do any of you guys use cold calling Telesales. I dont mean cally customers from your database, just complete cold calling. I personally hate it, but I seem to get so many calls now so it must work for some.

Every other call seems to be from businessess selling something or other. Had the same one call 4 times in a week, so asked them to remove us from their database. Apparently it's not done by database now. I thought that they could only use bonafide databases, anyone know any different? Have done some telesales in the past (not for CC'ing), and it's not for me, found it soul destroying!

The Telephone Prefrence Service has stopeed most of my unsolisted deomestic calls , or might be I am the kind of person they do not want to market to.
Although I did not ask for it due to changing telephone providers my name has droped out of BT phone book.
I still get a lot of calls from Web Companies
But that is because I have put our name on directories.
THe problem is I am regestered twice

Often I find companies such as Yellow Com phone me twice a day

With all cold calling it depends on person doing it some can some cant plus there are so many regulation its a minefield and you could end up with Bif Fine
Public do not like cold calling. they do not like piles of leaflets on doormat everyday they do not like people knocking at the door they do not like blah blah blah
Best to shut up shop and go broke watching spooks

Ive only been self employed for 6 months now,but the amount of telesales calls I get is crazy.At times it feels like I get more telesales calls than customer quotes.
I sometimes feel like cold calling myself,but I find it irritating,and so to the general public.

do unto others is my motto, i hate telesales myself so i wouldn't inflict this torture onto my hopefully future custies when they can find me themselves. a nice letter is far as i would go.

or people would not invest in this kind of pro-active marketing .
Yes its totally down to the listening and communication skills of the tele-canvaser.
I find the best cana's ( but not always) have lots of life experience and due to this they can strike up and hold a conversation on most subjects and wing it well when needed.

A cc'er near me uses this method, I think he targets the retired persons.
Done a couple of jobs whereby the custy has phoned me on principle (not liking telesales). The seller raises the issue of carpet cleaning to be fobbed off 'til a later date. They then phone me when theyre ready ( because theyve had 3 leaflets from me since xmas).
Telesales in a previously untapped area probably works quite well.

It is actually illegal to "cold call" any number without first checking if the number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service. If someone complained about you cold calling a registered number you could find yourself with a warning, carry on regardless and you lose your phone :o

Most just ignore this check anyway. When I receive an unsolicited cold call I always make a point of asking who and which company is calling. I then tell them that they are calling a TPS registered number and I will be reporting the matter. You'll never hear a call ended so quickly after that ;D

telesales people are the lowest of the low from my experience, there commision based, they are named and shamed in the office if they don't get results, the best sellers win playstation 3's for getting the most sales. there not personal in any way, if you wanna harm your business in the long run then go for it, yes you 'll get sales and lots of them, but you'll get more (unknowing to yourself) customers growing to hate the pestering and pushing that these telesalers have to do to earn a crust.
all telesale buyers are victims. and if you employ telesales people to get you work then good luck to ya.
would anyone here deal with customer street. they can go fk themselves that company can, if i ever met one of them i'd rip there fkin heads of a sht down there fkin necks.

Telesales is something that works if you can tie the client in during the call & take their money over the phone. The second point is that like alot of marketing - it is a numbers game. So unless all you carpet cleaning companies have the wherewithal to have a bank of 50 or so telesales operators on hand to perform the task day in day out - I can think of alot better ways of throwing away your hard earned money

Why bother with all that fannying about when there are HUNDREDS of much better and ethical ways of getting cooostomer... my 2 cents

T/sales is an excellent way of adding an extra 5 to 6k per month to your business turnover in fact when i first started cleaning carpets i used to employ some-one to do it for me. the downside is that it's very time consuming going out to see people from the leads generated.

Or did you just introduce your company and see if they were interested.

I think if you start using the hard sell methods you will start getting so people cancelling or pretending they are out etc, that it probably would not be a cost effective exercise in the first place. The commissions that direct sales companies pay have to be very high because the actual conversion rates are very low.
Sales is a numbers game but few people realise the numbers involved you might have a conversion rate in tele sales of 1 in 30 that 1 call has to make enough money to cover the cost and hassle of contacting the other 29, you would probably have to restructure your prices.
It is also one hell of a job that not everybody can do.

its a numbers game, the offer was a free quote whilst we're in the area. as you know there are people out there that are dying to buy your service, you just gotta find them its a process of elimination, the more people you ask the more business you do.
