slate it or like it. i'm easy.
i quite like it and it should do the trick.
thanks to paul for getting us the premises to do the videoing.
and thanks to mike H for giving me the prototype for the vid. hope you don't mind mike, but i liked yours that much i bought the company so to speak ;D

ps..if it doesn't load then it must be getting censored as its only just been uploaded
-
Impressed. If I needed mine cleaning, I'd book ya :)
-
Good vid mate... I did my paving today as it happens with a RD of the petrol pressure washer world ;D 2200psi though, so it's ideal for washing the car but I'd never offer a professional service with it.....
How much would that area cost for such a clean? Sorry for being a price shopper, I'm just being inquisitive :)
-
Love the click of fingers at the end FONZY WEST
-
Go back and resand it in a few days and stick that on the end of the vid ;)
-
Nice little clip Derek - although a bit more directional lighting would have made the finished product look even that more great.
Admire your get up and go attitude by investing substantially in this aspect of cleaning - believe me - it will repay itself in no time at all.
Didn't see a turbo lance in operation - if you haven't got one - get one - makes all the difference. Good luck to you on this side of the cleaning pie
regards
p.s. resanding is something that yes is required at times - but not in every case
-
Very good Derek, what software did you use to edit it?
I`v got Final cut pro, but not got time to learn it.
Could do with something less full on.
Cheers
Rab.
Directors Cut?
-
its a good first one but you need to find a dirtier drive with better lighting, I don't think there is a big enough contrast on the before & after.
if you want until you get anther drive you can download mine off youtube then cut & paste the middle cleaing section inc the final result then paste on your begining & end
or I can email you the raw footage
mike
-
I like it, it's raw but that's what I like about it, the real deal.
Shaun
-
Like it derek.
Its the ben dover of driveway cleaning as shaun said raw but real :)

Love the click of fingers at the end FONZY WEST
shame i couldn't put the outtakes on steve, well funny, i even got attacked by a bumble bee. wet our selves when we watched it back.
col
no idea how much i'd charge mate, its a whole new ball game, between £1 and £2 a square meter i guess
mike
cheers for the offer, i think it'll do for now til i get a minger and i'm sure i will, plus i'm guessing most driveways i do will be about that bad and it did come up nice, allthough i know we could of done better.
rab
i used windows movie maker, really simple. i'm no spielberg so thats enough for me, couple of transitions, bit of text and bobs ya teapot
franz (i think?) ;D
got a turbo with it, yes they are awesome and not for the faint hearted. ;) and cheers for the kind words
dave
left a couple of bags of sand, they can do it themselves ;D
shaun
should i call it derek dickinsons real deal, now wheres that orange spray paint. ;D
cheers for that terry and clinton. believe it or not i'm a big softy really and comments like that really make my day.
-
Derek you need to be aiming more at £2 - 3.50 per sq m for block paving, obviously less if a large area
-
i'm sure your right dave but its early days for me so i'm concentrating on filling my diary first and then i'll think about making shed loads of money. i'd of been happy with £150 for that. took 3 hours but i'm sure without the videoing and chatting to the owner we'd easily do it in 1 an half hours.
-
A typical TM’er in and out in no time ;)look at this porty boy ;D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPPxCU_Ovf4&feature=related
As for roof cleaning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8L_biigYhE&feature=related
Mike H is the man on this :o
Oh I like it
-
Good video mate, really impressive, Ians done the silica sand already. Thanks again mate!
-
Tis true Derek, bear in mind a lot of drives may only be 30 sq m so you need to make more than you would if spending that time cc ;)
-
minimum call out dave, thas not daft ya nose ;D
paul
thought he might, think if we'd of been late he'd of done the drive himself, workaholic that man is. ;D
-
Lol, I know what you mean mate, its a wonder he didnt take over from you and do it himself ;D he's not doing bad for 63
He never stops mate!
-
Like it derek.
Its the ben dover of driveway cleaning as shaun said raw but real :)
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Derek
There were times when I could hardly see the work being done because the person holding the camera was shooting in front of the sun. Always photograph with your back to the sun/light. Some editing software lets you lighten up clips when this is the case.
Id also have enjoyed a slightly longer video. I know a lot would find watching a video like this boring but I like to watch this stuff and would have liked it a tad longer.
Maybe you could have gone back a day or two later and sanded the drive and showed that?
Some background music would also liven up the proceedings and made it more professional? At one point you can hear a dog barking! I own Power director and have most Smart sound CDs (they are $100 each and I have a grands worth). They are really clever and whatever music clip you choose they can be worked so the music fits the exact length of your video! Very clever! They really make a hell of a difference to videos! Have a look at one I did for my uPVC cleaning (ill be adding more to the video when I get a good gutter job to do)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKj9MXLuCQE
I dont like the font you use either...or maybe Im quibbling? >:( Oh and the clicking of the fingers at the end reminded me a bit of Rentaghost although I think they used to hold their noses to disappear? Im drifting now...
I think its deffo good for a first attempt!
John
-
Ah, Rentaghost reminds me of when i was a kid :D - Derek you could dress up as Timothy Claypole (make it a bit more interesting ;D).
Good video by the way, also agree some background music be better.
J
-
Maybe he could have the Rentaghost theme playing in the background? ;) ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT54Er0a7nQ
Memorable!
-
HA HA, RentaDerek.
Go on derek dress as Mr Claypole, with that theme tune-you be a youtube hit ;D Defo get the clients talking about you.
J
-
don't think i can put music on without losing the sound of the pressure washer and water flow, and for me thats more important than rentequip or ghost music ;D
understand where your coming from sky and your vid is very professional but i think i'll stick with "raw" (shauns words)
i would change a few things, the sound isn't to good when i'm talking and i need to relax more and yes the lighting could be better. but it'll do for now.
anyway, terry would book me. ;D
-
Derek,
1/ Spend a few quid on a tripod (about £15.. for a serviceable one). It makes life much easier.
2/ Sound... Does your camera have an external microphone socket? If it does, then you can use a tie clip microphone and get your voice directly into the camera (without outside interference).
3/ Clearing up... Would something like this speed up the process? http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_420500_420500
Garry
-
yeah your right about the tripod and i'll have to find out if it takes an external mic.
couple of guys have said about the water broom but i'm not sure about one of those. think i'd have to try one to be convinced.
-
Derek, if you're going to ccdo then Dave L uses one as part of his rug cleaning demo.
Steve
-
not going steve, its on a sunday and i have ma kids. only earning money can keep me from my kids.
-
sky
this ones got music but still a bit short for you i think :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UziyKAlLzs
-
Horrific music! Id turn that off before seeing the rest of it!!!
:-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
..........couple of guys have said about the water broom but i'm not sure about one of those.......
Derek- as your above intuition has told you - forget about the water broom. Ok for a quick wash down but even then not much quicker & alot more awkward than standard lance. As Steve above says - some use this as part of a rug cleaning process ??? - gives you a good comparison to hard surface cleaning ;)
-
Its very good for a first attempt and i am sure you will do well i would book you if i had a driveway :(
Did you buy the machinery for patio/driveway cleaning only or does it have other uses.
-
don't think i can put music on without losing the sound of the pressure washer and water flow
With most half decent software it is possible to have 2 or even 3 soundtracks running at the same time
-
not my first attempt james, ive done a few ;D
right sky, last attempt, it long, too long, its got background music so here goes ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHBpN1mKNh8

Much better than the pressure washing clip!! If I was being critical I would say you can't really see the 'before and after' very well which as a customer I would like to see, but an excellent video non the less! Well done!!
-
took some advice and just bought a tripod off ebay, £9.99 inc pp. amazing
will be doing a remake of the pw video, see if i can take everyones points on board and do a better job. watch this space ;D
hopefully no out takes ;D
-
Derek I bought an ipod from Ebay for £9.99 as well and to be honest with you you get what you pay for they are pretty poor but do the job! Ill be investing in a better one soon!
-
i'm no spielberg, it will suffice, as long as it keeps the cam still and I disagreeistant doesn't put his thumb on the lense, (can't believe no one spotted that ;D) it'll be fine. maybe when i get my first bafta i might invest in something a little better ;D
-
Been looking into video editing, fascinating stuff. If you got right into it, it could consume your life.
I wish there was 3 of me.
Here,s a tip.
Use a transition to change the video when on the same subject.
Use a wipe for a new subject or to grab attention, and not too often.
Rab.
-
whats a wipe?, windows movie maker doesn't have wipe, just sussed out effects, just used fade in and fade out for my still shots and it works really well
-
What software do all you boys use? Im a Power Director 8.0 man myself
-
A wipe. Here`s Garrys LOUD video ;) as an example, which I thought was a very good example
of a video, if someone is not confident in front of the camera.
Anyway
A wipe is at 0.25
A transition is at 0.30

Love the music he uses! Very 70's porn!
-
I did a video for someone recently with totally different music and they commented on the porn angle as well! In the carpet cleaning one above it was the only royalty free music I had.
The transitions are standard Sony ones (there are literally hundreds). Rab, in Sony, you can vary the speed, opacity, tightness of roll etc of the transitions. You can save them as presets.
-
Sorry Garry!! I kept expecting Linda Lovelace to jump out any second! Mind you, probably doesn't say much for me when I can associate 70s porno with carpet cleaning!! Pretty sad really...
-
I'd get a lot more views if she did.
Wonder what ads Youtube would run at the bottom of the video?
