Title: Swivel Adapter Bolt
Post by: traps7 on April 06, 2010, 07:02:26 pm
Anyone got a good picture(s) showing the bolt through a swivel adapter?

I've just received two and don't want to mess them up.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty straight forward just drill through it fit the bolt and make sure you fit a nylock nut so it does`nt come undone

Thanks for the reply.

Do I put the bolt through the bit it pivots on? And what thickness bolt, something like m6?

there is a quicker way now, use a brake caliper split pin, slid it through fold back the 2 legs

Drill "straight" through the centre of the ball & socket. Flat off a bit of the plastic to give the drill a more accurate bite if you need to.

I use a 3mm drill & nail just smaller than that instead of a bolt.

The drilling is the important bit, the truer the hole the free'er the swivel will be. ;)

I'm not trying to insinuate that you're thick traps BUT- (just incase)

The point of the "pin/bolt" is to stop the ball popping out of the socket, as it will, as these swivels are made for sweeping brushes. SO, the hole MUST be drilled the correct way, so that the unit can still swivel. ;)

I did think that but was just checking! Thanks.

A picture would be nice just to be doubly sure.

They are a mass produced bit of plastic manufactured for another purpose and so do vary in quality. I've had them last anywhere from 2 months to 8 months!

Yeh I'm wondering that now. I'll have to give them a try with and without the bolt perhaps.

Just been out and drilled one and put a tiny 3mm diameter bolt through. But I see what you mean about being dead straight. My hole wasn't so had to make it a bit bigger so it would still fully swivel.

I guess it's gonna be trial and error and I may have to learn the hard way!

That's ok traps, had to make my hole bigger once or twice for the same reason, it'll still do the job.

Another tip- put a small amount of vaseline on the ball for smoother action. ;)

Ok enough now or I can see this thread turning into lots of innuendos what with bigger holes and vaseline! lol.
