I just got my scrims today and I have never use them before. I bought them from the window cleaning warehouse they are there own brand grade a and are unwashed and are quite big. Do I wash them first before using them also is OK to cut them down
-
dont cut them washing after time they will shrink and become more useable
-
I would soak them and then keep washing them. They need to be broken in but using them helps with this.
They will shrink a bit but I cut mine down anyway and hem them where they`ve been cut. This is just because I prefer a smaller cloth.
-
never cut them m8 :o they will fray like hell :(
get them on a hot wash & if u got a tumble dryer stick them in that m8 ;D
that helps sofen them ;D instead of puttin them out on the washin line or the rads that makes
quite stiff :(
-
Didn't know people still used scrims! I stopped 14 or more years ago.
-
i started window cleaning about 4 months ago and cut my scrims in to 4 they are getting better every time i wash them on a 60 degree wash and then in the tumble drier when you first get them they are like sack now mine are soft and work very well
-
if u cut scrims u gotta stich them round the sides ;D
-
I put any new scrims on a boil wash before first use. They get better after a few washes. IMO they are far better than microfiber for detailing. Microfibers are good for buffing glass but scrims rule on detailing, I've tried loads of different m/fibers & IMO they are an over-rated product! ;)
Another thing, don't use softener in the wash.
Happy days

I cut them in half and have them hemmed along the cut. A customer does it on a machine and it doesn`t take long. I just prefer them a bit smaller.

use them as sill cloths to brake them in and keep putting them in the wash

Just laziness on my part Stan. I find them easier to handle and put in and out of a pouch.
Plus I was trained by Jeremy Beadle.

I boil them twice them use them for sil cloths first, just to break them in.
I have never cut them down, personally dont see the point.
If you cut them into 4s you will still use 4 smaller ones to 1 larger one.

the best thing to do is boil em for 2 hours put em in washer and tumble dryer 3 times and then cut em up and put em in the bin ;) youll be buying flared jeans next
-
boil them or leave them to soak overnight then use them for sills cloths and dirty frames, keep washing them until there broken in.
i use scrim and microfibre.scrim great for detailing on a wet day(they last longer)but microfibres are unbeatable for buffing up leaded windows ;) ;D ;D
i never cut scrim up.they shrink after a few washes.
