All,
Been out to do a small 3 seat for a customer. She was having the sofa brought into house and the edge scrapped against Black Rubber on door. Had a go at it with grease-type remover, nothing, tried a solvent (Solvex) nothing.
Customer is quite happy with clean and not too worried, so not too urgent, but I want to be able to remove it completely. Call it professional pride at stake........!
Anyone got any ideas.
Got some pictures, but lost the camera/PC cable.... so will put them up as soon as I figure out which of the kids has knicked it.

Some thirty five years ago I worked in a gasket and seal factory where rubber and butyl and others were mixed with a spirit which dissolved them and formed into sheet material by being rolled and the spirit being evaporated . This spirit was even more volatile than petrol.
barry may come in on this point but high end spirit like this may work in softening /diluting the rubber or similar material but you will still have the problem of removing the dilution never mind possible damage to the face material.
I wish you luck
