Title: How many days max between canvass & doing the work?
Post by: Ian Mason on March 31, 2010, 08:42:16 pm
Hi all,

I am going to start canvassing on Friday, & plan to do this all weekend, & start doing cleans starting next Tuesday. I am hoping the kids school Easter holidays will boost my canvassing figures for people being in aswell.

I am going to aim for 7 jobs per day to begin with, & I wondered how many days maximum do you think I should limit myself between canvassing & doing the work? ???

I don`t want to canvass & find out  by the time I go to do a first clean that another windy has got in there if I leave it too long.

Many thanks.

When i started i said i would be around in the next 7-10 days and everyone was fine with that (apart from the ones that needed texting/ringing for access)

Really depends on what type of work your picking up. Ive got a guy who delivers leafets for me and so far out of 3000 that were posted last week  ive had about 20 new jobs. Alot of which have been con roofs gutters and fascias and all of them have there windows cleaned every four weeks. This time of the year it seems to go mad for these type of cleans as of the 'spring clean'.

Personly i would just go for what you really feel like doing take phone down there phone numbers and if you cant get to clean them the day you planned call them and let them know when you will be there . I found that as long as you keep them posted you wont lose them.

Go for and get as many as you can to much work is better than not enough thats the way i look at it.

Good Luck

I would knock and book the work into the following week,.

Also you need to be careful that you don't book to much business in at first, you will find out within 4 hours on your 1st day cleaning why.

Ian if you pick up any work over £35 you have to give the customer a 7 day cooling off period by law!
I only found this out this week.

I have just picked up to 2 gutter jobs, £150 on one and £190 for the other, but I told them I can not clean them for at least 7 days as I have to give them a cooling off period, but both of them booked in soon as after the 7 days lol

Its a verbal contract/agreement.
even verbal contracts/agrreements are bound by the law.

No Joke guys!

Following a thread on CIU (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=94227.0) i've done some digging. I'm not an expert, but the law seems clear to me - have a read of this:

http://www.pkc.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/9D37DB44-A032-4F78-8B01-48F57B1511B4/0/CANCEL...

Here is the relevant stature: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/uksi_20081816_en_1#l1g5

The upshot is:

From 1 October 2008, new regulations extend the existing law on cooling-off periods and cancellation rights for consumers. They will cover contracts made both during both solicited visits made by traders - ie visits made at the consumer's request - and unsolicited visits by traders. The visits could take place in a consumer's home or workplace, or another individual's home, or on an excursion organised by the trader away from the trader's business premises in the UK. Certain exceptions may however apply.

Traders must provide a minimum cooling-off period of seven calendar days starting with the date of receipt by the consumer of a notice of the right to cancel from the trader

• The right to cancel, within the cancellation period applies to contracts with a total payment value of more than £35
• The cancellation rights must be clearly and prominently displayed in any written contract, or given in writing if there is no written contract

Yes your ok, lol, my interperation of it is you have to give 7 days notice before doing the first clean if its a regular monthly/ fortnightly/weekly/daily clean of over £35.
once you give the 7 day notice you can work as regular as you and the customer agrees, even if its everyday.
