Got a leaflet through my door from a cc in Doncaster.I live in Leeds so is about 25 miles,or a 50 miles round trip.
He states he will clean a typical 3 bed full house in my area for £60.So lets break this down!Petrol about £10,Chemicals £5,Tax & insurance £20.So thats £35 before you start. That leaves £25 remaining. Now for me with my porty to clean a 3 bed full house, with Vac,pre spray, agitation, extraction, turbo dry would take me about 5 hours.
Doesn't add up!
-
Any chance off a piccy or a down load Chris?
Cheers, Col!

tax and insurance on one job £20?
-
Derek
Ok, im not going to quibble over a few quid, just trying to make the point that its amazingly cheap
Chris

I typed in cc's W.Yorks on Vivastreet this morning and there was one advertising
3 piece suites at £30. Think he was located in Stanningley.

John
Your a bit quicker than me,sure I will speed up with experience.
Might book this guy to clean my 3 bed house, save me the hassle for £60 ;D

My advise Chris john,
Dont let it worry you, there is a market for these c/c and i should say they do well, on the other hand plenty more would be willing to pay more, infact a fair percentage imo would think twice about low priced c/c , i know over the years I have succeeded in attaing the job after they have been quoted far lower.
ok you may lose a few but do you really want these?

Do you keep moving your machine around to stay on the 25 footer?
I just bang mine outside the door and bang the 50 footer on.
Hardly ever pre vac, usually find the owner has done that already.
John
-
John
Most of the time I do stick to the 25ft length.
I would always Vac,no matter what.Thats why im slower I suppose. It takes quite a while to Vac a full house, but i still think its worth it.

He also gives 10% discount for OAPs

I had same leaflet year ago, i posted it on here back then, same prices too.

I bet he looks like the Stereo typical carpet cleaner. Mid 50's-to early 60's, creepy looking, miserable attitude, smoker, wears glasses, knitted jumpers and brown cords, uses an old estate Volvo to get about in.
Most carpet cleaners look like Peter Tobin.
-
A new one appeared near me not so long ago. I gave them a call and asked how they would clean my wool carpets. In best Cornish accent he said. Got this amazing machine and we will blast your carpet with 3000psi ( then he shouted to someone "that machine it's 3000psi int it" ) and also use the vacuum to recover the water at the same time.
I said is that going to be safe for the carpet. He assured me it would be fine ::) I inquired a little more about his expertise but decided to clean it myself. 8)

if his flyer give's the same impression as his workmanship then i would give him a miss :'(

I googled the telephone and it's in Adwick le street, it'll take some time to get to Leeds.
Shaun
-
but he won 't be coming to leeds for just one job he'll book four jobs in and will sell some protector and deodoriser so he be making £300 a day at least.
he won't prevac but he's selling a cheap service, so they won't expect him too.
he's giving the exact service the people are paying for, he's not selling himself as a high priced, top of the range cleaner.
-
What makes you think he'll actually charge those prices!
-
Where he lives is a very poor area it's called the Dearne Valley and there's some of the highest unemployment, teenage pregnacy and drug related problems so asking for the highest rates aren't something he'll be used to.

Give him a ring as a potential customer you will soon realise what he is all about. He will move from area to area doing the same thing. If you have a spare 5 mins, give him a bell with some standard questions, you will bae amazed with his answers.
I have had this leaflet, i posted it on here some time since, i live about 55 miles from the dearne valley :o

;D Brilliant Matt, that looks a lovely! ;D

I would take 4 to 5 hours for that as well, dont worry to much about that it is a bit frustrating i had a customer i quoted for lounge diner hall stairs and landing came out £173 she had a quote before me came out £40 :o she still booked me ;D, the type of customer thats wants to pay £40 is not worth worrying about you want customers that appreciate your hard work and skill and are willing to pay a fair price, they will be more likely to want you again and pass more work your way thats my experience.
The one thing that really baffles me about the splash and dash guys is "why" you just going to get aggro from disgruntled customers and they cost a fortune to find in the first place, make em happy then one job becomes several via referals, if the customers happy so am i i go home with a smile on my face you would really have to be "thick" and "thick skinned" to run a business like that.

Sensible chap.
Bungalow is right opposite the pub.

Mike has hit the nail on the head . He has guys working for him bait and switch merchants normally . The place where he is based might just be for work . I bet he makes a pretty penny out of the prices he charges . Like Mike says £300/dayand that is just for one guy, he most probably has another two or three working for him for 35% of the weeks takings for them the rest for him .

Im with you on this one, these guys must really be thick skinned.I just couldn't do it on the cheap.I like to finish a job and know ive cleaned it to a high standard.I think that goes for most people.

Number 4 is the house after the bungalow.
Still not too far though.
Only takes me 5 minutes to get to pub.

Anyone fancy joining me for a pint in the Forresters? I'll give him a knock see if he wants to come over. ;D

This may not even be his real address ::) ...if he doesnt want aggro.

The reason 'why' is because these sorts dont rely on referrals and repeats. They rely on new all the time. Thats how they work, and people will always buy cheap - not knowing any different.
They know this and work the system accordingly.

I heard a thing on the radio last week talking about the banks and the finance sector and something was said that rung a bell, the companies that have gone out to make a quick buck, long term have in fact made the biggest losses, but the ones providing a quality service have been the long term winners.
I do not consider myself some paragon of vertue ::) but i enjoy doing a good job and seeing a happy customer and that also happens to be good for business so its win win.

Its called job satisfaction and a moral compass the concept would be alien to the rip off merchants, bye the way i like your image on your profile i loved Roy Kinnear in George and Mildred and all the other stuff he did Cowboys he was in Minder and all those films where sadly he died.

Cheap sells good, quick and easy a higher price takes some selling and you have to find the right customer.
Shaun

if his making a good living out of it what does it matter to us? I used to think god we will never get any work in because someone does it cheaper, but it's not sort of customers you want to attract, so leave them to him. Plus Doncaster has been hit by the recession and quiet badly to be fair, people round here never had anything to start with and now this has happened they got even less.
As regards to travelling to Leeds, well we do a lot of work in Leeds area and travelling is not an issue at all as long as the jobs we get are worth going for, it's half an hour drive. it takes longet to travel within London, but it doesn't mean that all the companies in London only offer a service in the 15 mile radious, they travel all throughout London, so travelling drom Doncaster to Leeds or even Harrogate is only same.
Shaun,
We are from Doncaster and I'm sure Dearve Valley is near mexbrough not adwick le street.

The work mst be harder to come by if you are going to charge a higher price dash were you are ???
I know some cleaners that travel a long way for jobs,i myself will go maybe 10 miles max and have always targeted my area so as not to spend time traveling..
-
The Doncaster ChemDry franchise was always in the top ten in the UK ,, there are plenty of well off people living there, they have cash to spend on good service.

Jason,
yeah there are wealthy people here, however as you know yourself there are also many people who have nothing and they are having to go out further a field to make a living and prepared to work for not alot of money and thats their choice if they think they can make money/living this way, then theres nothing wrong with that.

Clinton,
we do charge higher prices because of the services we provide and yes we do go further a filed too, which works for us, but mainly for one off cleans nor regular cleans. our main business is cleaning not carpet cleaning, so we can easily employ some one in leeds or harrogate to do cleaning for us, so we dont have to travel at all.
