I have recently quoted to do an in and out clean for someone locally. Said "i'll ring you and let you know when I can do it" he rings tonight (2 days later) to ask why I haven't rung him yet! easy tiger I thought. Another today said could you do the insides next time instead of outside.

It's because of the clocks changing I reckon.
They haven't seen their windows all winter now the sun(erm?) is streaming in, showing up the muck!!!
;D
Happy days.

The first I would say we are trying as hard as we can to arrage to fit you in as, the second yes missus, that will be 2x the outside price for insides we will be there lar lar lar

Remember the customer is alway right, even when they are wrong.
You just smile, say yes sir/madam and the total price is xxxxxx

I'm not sure why these folks have annoyed me, but they have. 'Chill out' my missus says. Its like having a boss all over again - "why haven't you done such and such" etc. Blah blah blah.

If they are stressing you out and you can afford it, you can either dump them or raise their price to such a level that you are willing to accept their advice as the best thing since slice bread.
Personally I don't have customers who I don't like.

I'm not quite at that stage yet but will relish the moment when I can drop these odd bods like a hot coal.

im at the same stage as you tom cant wait for a year or so to get my own back on a few custys im not liking,
one asked me the other day to clean a bit of moss of the front door i thought cheeky b***ard, another said the old window cleaner used to only come few times a year so agreed to every 2 months but she going let me no if she wants it done every 3 months £5.50 house £22 a year iv decided she is officially dropped

sounds like a typical stoke moaner lol ;D ;D

I think that is the main problem if you charge low, the customer thinks that you need the money and you will accept their crumbs from the plate.
What you should do is raise your price to £10 minimum with double on a 1st clean.
You then increase the price to £12 if they want it cleaned every 6 to 8 weeks, anything over this pattern is charged as a 1st clean.
I have always dropped customers who I didn't like or want from day 1, yes it can be tough, but replacing them is easier to more confident you get.
Remember it's your business and your customers need you, customers can be replaced if they are not good at their job.
-
I don`t think you have to like all your customers. As long as they are fair then I don`t have to like them and vice versa. It`s just business ;).
-
its funny the day after Jackal but there's some right cheeky folks out there I argree. Like Pure says though it's got to be like sorting the wheat from the chaff and having a bit of posture. 8)

working in a compact area id rather have rows of custies than big gaps where ive fell out with them and now a new cleaner gets in - what if hes cheaper and happier than you :)
you might find your custys dissapearing, i think there has to be a fair amount of give and take people will try it on be flexible to a point dont shoot yourself in the foot because they upset you slightly just be sure what things you wont allow but any small issues you dont have to sack every custy that upsets you! just make sure they are well priced and smile as you take there money
