Hi,

Have you got an angle adaptor on the end of the pole?

are you saying the ones that slope from left to peak then down to the right if you face the garage. if so almost impossible to do with a pole. you can buy a roof hook that  attached to a single ladder from screwfix. i always missed these ones and charged accordianly. or do i admit to just walking up the roof ::) well i did for years but not now. they can be really slippy and i wouldnt recommend walking on any sloping roof

hi ian ive got some hints and tips on trad pole work.

1.good rubber on squeegy.

2.use an angle adaptor.

3.dont soap up right to top edge(leave a 2mm gap!)

4.feather the top edge when squeegying and slightly diagonal pulls into centre of the window.

5.detail the edges with a bone dry microfibre in a fixi clamp on the pole.

it takes time to get good at it!but worth it!its saved my bacon at times!a must IMO if your a sole trader traditional window cleaner.ill be wfp soon but the trad pole will still come in handy for unsuitable windows that dont come up good with wfp.

and itll come in handy if we get another really cold winter when wfp would be frozen.allows me to still go out and earn a bit!!no water issues and you can do a half decent job when you get the hang of it! ;)

I have the same problem when im canvassing i tend to leave the house's that have hard to reach windows (but thats missing out on potential customers) i do have a wagtail that swivels that does make it a bit easier but im not very good with a trade pole.As someone said WFP will be mention but you need enough customers to warrent that IMO but i am seriously thinking about getting a trolley or backpack with a pole so i can tackle these hard to reach windows.Anyway goodluck getting more customers ive managed to get 4 in a week on leaflets best  return on leaflets yet.

Being able to do these types of window could be a selling point for you. So a smallish wfp set up could be worth the investment.

just get your mrs hair bands and wrap it round your scrim/micro onto the pole saves buying a fixi clamp

Well what it is i want to deliver leaflets and not have to bother thinking (this house will be to much hassle) it's slowing me down i just want to focus on the letter box then on to the next. Also like i said before skipping a house could mean skipping a customer, so i think im going to have to sort out a small WFP unit.

fixi clamp:green unger one from the windowcleancentre.

i have the unger teleplus 5 section 30 metre pole but only use the first 3 sections mainly.

i also have a short optiloc pole for very large downstairs windows and big raised up skylights on flatroofs!it comes in handy for cleaning conny roofs as ive got the unger brush/pole hose that fits on the pole, fit on to custys tap and away i go!!

all very handy pieces of kit.miles safer than just using ladders and piece of mind for yourself!!

dazmond you do know when you go wfp that pole can be converted to wfp very easily and will allow you to do three story work easy

Hi,

Have you got an angle adaptor on the end of the pole?

yep unger 30 degree .. used it with unger 1.25 x 5 section Tele Plus ... like the suggestion of rubber band around microfibre

hadnt thought of a trolley / backpack but then getting into RO as my TDS is 250 !! rainwater barrel only 36 TDS .... now theres an idea  ;)

its heavy though with the 5 sections on!it might come in handy on the odd house.would be better if i could fit a gardiners supalite brush on the end!the unger brush is damn heavy!its ok for conny roofs and cleaning the car with but 30 feet in the air?im not sure about that!

do you think i should get an 18 brodex hydra alloy pole for run of the mill domestic and use the unger for taller work??

ian the only way i could do these safely was ladder to the centre of the peak and trad pole from the ladder so you are working straight on. as dazmond says leave a gap from top of the pane then detail. i always warned the customer that these windows would never be perfect, but i could do a decent job by the time i went wfp

daz what i did for a long time was just use the three sections and had the pole hose on the outside of the pole and only added the other sections if needed. yes its heavy but for the odd job it does the job

ian,  id say buy a WAGTAIL FLIPPER  these are great on a pole. but before you buy it ----- >

if you look on YOUTUBE  , go into " MyWagga" you will see the master at work. this fellas videos are a goldmine of information on how to do it , his nickname is wagga , a great guy has made over 40 short youtube videos mainly on pole work but also on w.f.p.

by the way, buy the wagtail angle arm at the same time, its worth every penny

I know it doesn't suit the original question but on this type of work I would ivest in a little wfp equipment. I use trad gear on extention poles for above stairwells or apex windows. I would never want to clean a window with a trad pole that someone stands at though, and I've been doing it years.  I use a wagtail on the high internal windows I do.

I would say if you want them done perfect then get a di vessel, wf-pole and bacpack. One backpack of water will be enough for say 5-10 windows on regular cleans. If you really want to save on money and your customers have an outside tap you could even skip the backpack and go tap>di>pole.

I reckon you could be set up for the odd window for £250.

on regularly cleaned windows you can do a perfectly good job with a trad pole.i use gg3 and it doesnt leave white marks like fairy round the edges if it dries before you detail.harder to see what your doin!but ive cleaned my own windows in bright sunlight with trad pole and theyve been great when i inspected them.

i normally use the ladders on easy first floor windows.pole on dodgy driveways etc.i have used trad pole on ALL upstairs windows during freezing weather but thats an exception.

windows are never perfect when youve cleaned them with the odd faint spots wfp and the odd dragline/scrim mark in very bright sunlight traditionally!

they look perfect when its cloudy though!!! :P :P ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D

 What if they are leaded?
I can`t believe that a trad pole can do a better job than wfp. But I`m willing to be proven wrong.

trad pole no good on leaded.im not saying its better than wfp as obviously you give the frames a thorough clean but you can do an adequate job for the odd dodgy window IF its not leaded!!! ;D ;D ;D

wfp will do a better job and a lot faster probably!but what if its old wooden windows/oxidized frames and its too dodgy for ladders??and its below freezing?THATS when the extension pole comes into its own!!

i am looking forward to wfp then ill have ALL the tools in my locker

   LADDERS/EXTENSION POLES/SCRIMS/SQUEEGYS and WATER FED POLE!!! ;D ;D

Dasmond the fact that you are using gg3 must mean you live in a soft water area. If your water was hard with a tds of in the 400's I think the results would be very different. I can clean windows with pure water squeegee off and a wagtail and get good results, but our tap water is a cometely different story.

as ever ,Waggas got a video showing his modified tool for doing leaded windows  up high on a pole .  it uses an unger fixi clamp and a car seatbelt protector . ive  not made one up myself, but no doubt it works good .    check his vid out on youtube (MyWaggas channel )

A quick tip,if you have the flexi clamp use a damp micro cloth/scrim then use a dry micro cloth/ scrim to finish .
Never had a problem ,do all my leaded windows this way ,use my pole and trad most days

i struggle with that too ... unless im wrong and im only a newbie .... i see no difference but prefer microfibre as my scrim dont seen to be very absorbent and ive washed it too

Scrims need a lot of washing and use to `break` them in, then they become more workable. Some boil them first.
Micros don`t need this and are more absorbent. As a result, they get wetter quicker and you need to change to a dry one. You`d probably get through more micros than scrim.
Scrim is a good all rounder though and I would always have some at hand.

i personally dont think you can do a good enough job with scrim/microfibre on a pole on leaded!i tryed once and got a complaint!either get up close on the ladder or wfp it! ;D ;D
