Title: Mixing Microsplitters
Post by: Eddie Conroy on July 21, 2005, 11:02:00 pm
Hi,
Has any one in depth experience of mixing microsplitters with a detergent. Whilst using microsplitters as my first option I feel that in really greasy conditions (as you might find in a care home dining room) that the microsplitters are not always very effective. I tried usining my normal mix of splitter as a base to which I added Ashbys Extra Grease and appeared to get a result. Although admittedly it was a synthetic polyprop/nylon pile which normally cleans up a treat.
Any advice please (ps to anyone that knows me I had my second eye op last week and the world is wonderful Thanks to Moorfields and Gatwick Park :))
Regards
Eddie

that problem is i think pretty normal. good idea with ashbys grease extra /i use some of there chemicals.but have found what you say as a very good effective treatment itself.

The action of the micosplitter will work against the detergent, thus not allow either to work as they should. Not only is this a waste of chems the result wont be as you require. Either use one or the other.

Hope that helps

i think most suppliers and ms afficianados wiil say "these products work against each other" i say if it works then use it and most ms suppliers are anti detergent anyway. i think why use ms at all in this situ there are many superb hi ph detergents to deal with grease. agitation is the main thing i think(see my post on grease)with heat.

I would use No 9 from solutions. It is a heavy duty M/S (used to be called No2 HD). I have great results with it. Plenty of agitation is the key.

Hi to all that posted.
The reason that I asked the question is that I invariably have a litre or so of diluted microsplitter prespray left over and have been using this liquid with the addition of Hot water and some form of detergent to form a new prespray on my next job

Why not use it with the addition of warm water and more micro-splitter instead of detergent?

Ian,
This is normally when I am treating Draught lines and  heavy greasy soilage where I have not got total confidence in a  microsplitting.

Nick

I have bought some filterout too just to try out. Did it work better than renovate and or ecospotter/zap it.

I also bought some citra-boost with a view to mixing it with M/S to see how it worked on greasy carpets.  Could the gods please tell me if this is a valid approach or would there be a conflict between these two chems.

I know that you could just use no9 but you have to try new approaches to improve.

Paul Robinson from Prochem told me at the sunny day out that Filter Out is  Ultrapac Renovate in a ready to use form.

Hi Guys,

I have found MS to be a good prespray before detergent cleans.

It could also be used as a booster.

MS is the phosphate part of the detergent formulation with agitation replacing the wetting/suspension part carried out by the detergent.

MS and detrgents should be compatible although may be overkill.

I would not mix them together but apply seperately and experiment.

Cheers,

Doug

If you can find the correct balance with micro splitters there is no need whatsoever to introduce a detergent.

IMO after a number of tests Number 9 will out perform any detergent in 9/10 situations, If you know what your doing ;)

It all depends on how you are using your products, if you do exactly what it says on the tin I would suspect you will get the same results, but with MS you do get the added benefits of no residue so less rinsing, no odour, and safe as cleaning products go (can you still drink it?)

Domestically I think it's still King, as I use the wool safe version and it's fine to apply protector immediately after cleaning and safe on most awkward items.

ITS TIME CARPET CLEANERS TOOK SOME TIME OUT TO RESPECT THE ENVIROMENT, AND PERHAPS become a little more ecological with what we use.we must be high on the list as ones who polute .i myself am now studying the subject in great detail.SHAME ON THOSE WHO DONT CARE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS OF OUR TRADE,peace feng shui.from ron the cc of a new :o :P age

Fair comment Ron but whats your point?? attempting to have another childish swipe at micro-splitters :o

I would argue, in the bigger picture any amount of phosphates that find there way into the water system from carpet cleaning is so small it wont have any measurable affect. Besides that since phosphates were removed from domestic laundry cleaning products, I believe they are added by the water board to balance the eco system.

I could be wrong but there are guys on here with all the facts who could fill in the gaps.

i was referring to general products not one in particular. it isent just the chemicals we use ourselves . its the other polutants we wash out of carpets .upholstery etc. whenyou think about thousends of us daily working with the above it must cause considerable harm. i knowGARYJ takes this matter very seriously and is always looking for ecologicaly balanced products.

I still say its a drop in the ocean!! If you think at one time near every house in the uk used a washing machine every other day, thats a serious amount of chemicals finding there way into the eco system. But if 1 in 4 homes have a carpet cleaned once every 1 or 2 years, then what we contribute cant be doing huge amounts of harm if any!!
Dont get me wrong I'm all for a clean envioment and will do all I can to minimise polution.

Enviromental concern, of course, but we as Pro Carpet cleaners barely scratch the surface, when it comes to causing polution of the water system. Even diy roadside car washing does more harm with the detergents, waxes, and all the grime going directly down the storm drain.
