Title: upstairs flats
Post by: cleewindows on March 28, 2010, 10:13:07 am
i just cleaned 2 this morning, they were filthy so needed to use a lot of water, due to that all the water ran all over the windows below on the downstairs flats, got a few nasty stares and glares but no arguments or tellings off,was waiting for them to come out so i can say |"do you want your windows cleaned"they never did.
dam.
THey were filthy downstairs so i thought sod it,its only pure water.
What does everyone else do in these situations?
i turned the water flow down but still came down all over downstairs.

That's the gravity of the situation!
You can get an injunction against you cleaning, if someone complains to the right/correct authorities!

It's been done before, no doubt it will again!

I don't do flats for that very reason, not worth the hassle!

This a subject that been bought up time and again and the consensus seems to be that if by cleaning the upstairs flat you've affected the downstairs flat then it's right and proper that you rectify the situation. Put another way: If you were a painter and in painting the upstairs frames you splashed a few drips of paint onto downstairs windows you wouldn't just shrug and walk away...would you?

i do a lot of flats what i do is clean them water fed and if the bottom moans then next time i do them of a ladder no other way around it try and get the bottom one as well and that would solve the problem

I wouldn't do it on principle but I reckon it would be quicker to give the downstairs a free clean than use a ladder on the upstairs - it'd only have to be a quick once over.

Yeah it's only fair to leave peoples windows as you found them, whether they're dirty or not.I wouldn't be impressed if somebody didn't even have the courtesy to knock and let me know they were going to drip water down my walls and windows. Not much bother to give them a quick token wash and rinse.

I do a couple like this but I insist that the flat owners speak to their downstairs neighbours before I do the work most of the time they are ok about it i get the feeling that they just liked to be told whats going on and of course it gives them a chance to close thier windows

"It's only pure water"

Not if it's dripping off brickwork or the underside of a sill.

If  canvassing  flats, I start at the bottom, and if they say yes, work upwards. You can't go messing peoples windows up or you end up cleaning them for free.

I do an old peoples home three storeys high and have loads of hassle. The only way round it would be if they all contributed to the maintenance costs and i could do the lot. People on the top floors are all happy and smiley, the rest would stick a knife in my back if they could move faster. Not prepared to clean for free, it's unfair on the ones who pay.
Just avoid flats these days.

lol i would rather start early and i do have a life and a wife and a 4 year old daughter, that is the reason i start early to spend time with my daughter.
i work full time on night earning 25k a year so im working part time to try and enough customers to do it full time!!!
Im trying to build a business and working hard at doing that so don't expect to be called names like saddo and told i havent got a life!
Im picking up lots of customers and enjoying it,i have done driveway cleaning in the past.
Soon as i build it up to £1000 a month i will be going down to a 3 day week and then £2000 a month i will pack my job in!
People that just have a go just make me more and more eager!

Your life may end tomorrow, how do you know what you will be doing tomorrow?
Anything could happen to you or your family, to make you change your outlook!

If anything did happen to you, how would your daughter or wife remember you?
working those hours surely you never see her/them!

ive got some very compact granny flats and i will keep them trad when i get a wfp.quite a lot of the frames on them are oxidized and i dont do all of the downstairs flats.i earn quite a good hourly rate trad on these so i wont be switching them over.

as been said have some respect for other peoples property or else you just might find yourself getting the sack for a more considerate and better trad window cleaner! ;) ;D ;D

thanks m8
Im off out to do a bit of leafleting if it doesnt throw it down that is.
Im taking a few days off over the next few weeks to blitz everywhere with leaflets and do some door knocking to see if i can get lots more customers.
Also i need to sort my van out as i have bought some vinyl signs to go on to make it stand out from the crowd.the signs are great from the signbuilder, well impressed £82 for both  sides and back including 6 big pics and lots of vinyl lettering and fitting kit included.
