Please can anyone help,
Last week I cleaned a nylon carpet and large corner sofa.
All went well but today the customer has rung back saying that the carpet smells.
Could it be that it took a long time to dry out as the sofa seemed to take forever to dry.
Would a second clean get rid of the smell?
Cheers

Drying times...... what machine you using?

Hi thanksfor responding.
I use an Alltec Aqua 40. But as I said the sofa was still damp when I left and so was the carpet even though I had a fan dryer on the whole time.
I have spoken again to the customer and she says the main area of the smell is the carpet along the front of the sofa, it smells of damp/urine. They do have a puppy and small child but there was no staining to indicate bad urine accidents.
I am returning tomorrow to assess and re clean it. Is this the best course of action?

You have the problem identified - small puppy, young child, either of them could have weeed on that area and its gone deeper down then you machine is capable of pulling up.
I had a problem last year though the lady swore blind her dog had not been in that room, but i reckon it had. Was only when I gone that the smell appeared, and I was using a truckmount, so strong suction.
Just cleaning it again wont do much in my opinion.
What I did was flush just that area with M-Power/Nemesis, then used Bio Green by injecting it into the carpet at various positions of the smell area as well as spraying on top of the carpet.
Bio Green does not mask the smell, it gets to the source and eats it up. Takes time and in severe cases may need re-treatment.
I am sure other guys can recommend something similar to Bio Green cause I not seen it for sale recently

Thanks for the advice.
please excuse my ignorance but what is M-power/Nemesis and Bio green. I use a Prochem Urine Neutraliser, would this be sufficient?

I had the same snag last year http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=81374.0

No.
World of Clean (solutions uk) do a similar product to the bio green mentioned. This is one product from them that actually does what it says, but does take 24 hours to work, and I've used it to kill the smell from cats and dogs.

Thanks Neal, do you know what the name of the product is?

UCT (urine contamination treatment) from ChemSpec. The best urine treatment smell there is on the market! IMO nothing comes close.
What you need is a unltravelot light, find the spots and treat them with uct. spray the rest of the carpet with Ordor Kill, again from ChemSpec. And then hot water extract.

Typical. One of the few products I actually thought worked as per the label and they stop producing it >:(
Guess I'm going to have to up the price on the usage of the few litres I still have left.

Looking at Solutions website it looks like the alternatives now are Cleanguard or Freshguard /Freshguard Plus

Hi Guys
I would suspect this has been caused by the carpet being wet for too long, maybe overspray from cleaning the sofa and the carpets subsequent cleaning, may have left it wet for more than 24 hours, which will lead to that stagnant water smell.
I would reclean with acid rinse mixed with Cleansan and spray a little concentrated Clensan on afterwards.
Cheers
