Hi guys,
as the title says,
weve been cleaning a mental health ''prison'' in manchester today and will be until next monday,
Its a secure unit and if any of you have heard of edenfields in prestwich you will know what i mean.
its a wfp job but due to the security we are allowed no hoses as the van is locked away in a compound so have to rely on portable systems.
weve been using a shurflo backpack today with 25l containers to top up but it as decided to pack in at the worst time possible.
ive dug out my freedom trolley but the variflow went on this a while back.
ive managed to connect my pump to a leisure battery but have no fuse for it.
its working fine and i can get by. but my question is:
can a shurflow 100psi pump operate direct to a battery without a fuse and not cause damage to the pump long term???
Sorry for the lack of punctuation on this guys been a very quick typed post.
Any help advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dean, yes you can as long as the pressure switch is still on it ;)

Dean the fuse is there to stop the pump burning out should there be a fault in the wiring or it is loading to much.
FOr a few days I would not worry, I would worry iof it was the only pump you have, why not take the pump out the back pack ?

Thanks for the quick reply fella,
What's the pressure switch though?
I've disconnected the variflow and connected the pump to the batt
Direct.
Will it be ok do you think?
Thanks again.

Dean I had to do this when my variflow went down and burnt all fuses, not saying this is a great idea but I did it direct to pump and risked burning the pump out if there was a problem, I weighed it up would cost me alot more than £80 sort the pump fail, I also had a back up pump.
IMO I would use it but with free flowing water to stop the stress on loading on out ect, pressure switch is a black square thing on bottom of pump looks like square steps a little (if you look you should know what I mean, hole at top )
Have fun

rather u than me Dean :o most of my family work in the prison service...... no way would i do it. :o

Thanks again ian,
Same here as the the cost of a pump compared to the job is well worth the risk.
+ I've 3 pumps at the moment.
Its got to be worth the risk atleast until the weekend.
Hitman,
I've dealt with many prisoners in the last 6 years and a weekly sometimes daily basis.
Its the mental issue that puts me on edge :-o
